Sun Bay Beach | Bioluminescent Bay

Sun Bay is a beach that is not only incredibly beautiful, but it is filled with interesting places to explore too. The beach is geographically part of the Virgin Islands and politically part of Puerto Rico. For most inhabitants Sun Bay is just Sun Bay, but for tourists it is a place of extreme tranquility and utmost beauty. Sun Bay is not worth just one visit - it is worth thousands of visits!

This stunning beach is situated halfway between Isabel II and the fishing village of Esperanza. Even the most demanding beach connoisseur will be fascinated by the beauty of Sun Bay's clear green waters, coral white sands and the endless number of coconut palm trees that provide shade. It is a typical island type beach and has all the facilities one has come to expect: ample parking, changing and restrooms and modern picnic areas to be enjoyed by the family. Camping is allowed, although a permit is required. Be sure to have plenty of refreshments and water by your side as Sun Bay Beach is mostly unspoiled and hasn't got much restaurants and eateries available offshore.

What makes Sun Bay even more exciting is the nearby Bioluminescent Bay that allows you to see tiny microorganisms which light up with chemical lights when disturbed. These are best seen when visited on a moonless night. They are totally harmless and it is an unbelievable experience to swim in the phosphorescent waters.
