Panteon Nacional Roman Baldorioty de Castro

The legendary Roman Baldorioty de Castro is a well known figure in the history of Puerto Rico. He became an outspoken politician who fought for independence and autonomy, and was a leading abolitionist in the country. After his passing on 30 September 1889, Roman Baldorioty de Castro was buried in one of Puerto Rico’s oldest and most historic cemeteries. His burial also resulted in the change of the cemetery’s name to Panteon Nacional Roman Baldorioty de Castro. Today, the cemetery is the final resting place of numerous celebrities, and has become a popular attraction in the city of Ponce.

Laguna Cartagena National Wildlife Refuge

Efforts to rehabilitate the Laguna Cartagena began in 1989 with the lagoon and surrounding land being leased out through the Puerto Rico Land Administration. During the year 1996, the area was increased to over a thousand hectares, with conservation initiatives continuing to protect the habitats of migratory and resident bird species. Visit OBRA Galleria

The OBRA Galleria was the brainchild of Jose E Alegria, who was born into a family of artists, some of whom have contributed greatly to the art culture of Puerto Rico. Alegria’s grandfather was a brilliant painter and his father became a well known art collector. His uncle, Don Ricardo Alegria, was referred to as the Father of the Puerto Rican Culture after founding the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture.
