Heroes are generally hard to come by, and when a sports hero like Sixto Escobar appears, everyone stands behind him, and no-one wants to forget his spectacular life and triumphs. Sixto Escobar is a legend in Puerto Rico. Winning hearts and support through every punch he threw and today, streets, monuments, and in this case, libraries, keep his name and memory alive. The Biblioteca Electrònica Sixto Escobar serves two purposes, paying tribute to the boxing idol, and to provide a service to the public.

Puerto Rico has always been a festive, cultural and exotic destination for travelers, but in recent years, it has been actively showcasing the artistic magnificence of Central America and the Caribbean. Four years ago it hosted the first Circa International Art Fair, and this year, from the 16th to the 20th of April 2009, the Puerto Rico Convention Centre will once again be host to this spectacular event. The Circa 09 International Art Fair is most definitely one of the most prestigious events of the year.

Separating the islands of Puerto Rico and Hispaniola, the Mona Passage connects the Caribbean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean, forming a vital shipping route between the Atlantic Ocean and the Panama Canal. The Mona Passage also has the reputation for being one of the most treacherous routes in the Caribbean, especially for small watercraft. The eighty mile stretch of sea is prone to unusual and unpredictable currents created by sandbanks stretching out from both islands, as well as the position of the islands themselves.

Fans of Daddy Yankee are getting ready for the release of his latest project, a feature film that follows the stories of daily life in a barrio of Puerto Rico. It was premiered at the New York Latino Film Festival in July, and theatres will be showing the film in September. Of course, the soundtrack to the feature film, “Talento de Barrio”, which was produced and starred in by Daddy Yankee, has been a great hit since it hit the shelves on 12 August 2008. Indeed, Daddy Yankee is no ordinary reggaeton musician from Puerto Rico, as he is also an actor, brand name and radio host.

McJoe Arroyo and McWilliams Arroyo were born in Puerto Rico on 5 December 1985 and grew up in Fajardo and Luqillo, which are beautiful coastal towns that are popular with locals and tourists for their pristine beaches. But instead of lazing in the sun and taking in the splendor of the island, the twins were exercising in the gym and developing their boxing skills. After ten years of dedication, their efforts have been rewarded, with both brothers fighting their way onto the team for the Beijing Olympics.

The island of Corsica lies to the south east of France and just west of Italy. The families that stayed on Corsica during the 1700s depended on agriculture as their source of income, but during the eighteenth and nineteenth century industrial revolutions and failing crops on the island lured its residents to seek employment and new lives elsewhere. The growing political situation in Europe also led to instability and many Corsicans were encouraged to relocate to Puerto Rico and Cuba, where the islands were almost the same geographically, but had more opportunities for the Corsicans to develop.

Puerto Rican professional boxer, Juan Manuel Lopez (also known as Juanma) currently holds the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Super Bantamweight/Junior Featherweight title. Lopez has represented Puerto Rico in a number of tournaments, first as an amateur boxer and later as a professional boxer.
