Puerto Rico's Famous Piña Colada

Most of us think of tropical beaches and palm trees when we drink a piña colada, but few know where this tasty drink actually originated from. Over the years, the drink has been modernized and each country has their own way of serving piña coladas. This rum based cocktail is actually Puerto Rico's official drink and has been since 1978. There are various stories in regard to who and how the first piña colada came into existence, but one common fact is that it originated in Puerto Rico.

Fascinating Puerto Rican Tody

Puerto Rico has a wonderful variety of bird life, luring avid bird watchers to the country every year. There are a number of birds that are endemic to Puerto Rico, which makes sighting them extremely exciting. One such a bird is the Puerto Rican Tody. Locals refer to the small and colorful bird as the San Pedirito, translated to Little Saint Peter. It is protected by conservationists, who are working to ensure the survival of this bird that has made the entire Puerto Rico archipelago its home.

Rita Moreno is a living Puerto Rican legend who is not only admired by her fellow countrymen but the world over. Musical Talent of Bobby Valentin

Born on June 9, 1941, in Orocovis, Puerto Rico, Roberto “Bobby” Valentin showed an interest in music at a young age. His father taught him to play the guitar and as the guitarist and singer in a musical trio he won his first prize in a local talent contest at the age of eleven. By then his mother had passed away and Valentin was living with his older sister in the Puerto Rican town of Coamo where he completed his primary education.

Zayra – Reaching For the Stars

Born in Puerto Rico and raised in the picturesque coastal town of Arroyo, Zayra Alvarez displayed a love of music and dance from a young age, participating in talent shows and school plays. Zayra later moved to Texas, USA, where she became active in the club scene. Upon signing a record deal with Brando Records, Zayra recorded her Spanish debut album, Ruleta, for which she wrote and recorded all the songs, working with producer Javier Willis. Her song Hoy, released by Sony Norte, received airplay on radio stations throughout Puerto Rico, as well as in the United States, leading to the release of a second single, Cada Momento.

Circa 09 International Art Fair

Puerto Rico has always been a festive, cultural and exotic destination for travelers, but in recent years, it has been actively showcasing the artistic magnificence of Central America and the Caribbean. Four years ago it hosted the first Circa International Art Fair, and this year, from the 16th to the 20th of April 2009, the Puerto Rico Convention Centre will once again be host to this spectacular event. The Circa 09 International Art Fair is most definitely one of the most prestigious events of the year.
