Escape to Hacienda Tamarindo

Situated on Puerto Rico’s Isla de Vieques, the Hacienda Tamarindo welcomes visitors with warm hospitality and a spectacular view of the sparkling Caribbean. Hacienda Tamarindo’s owners, Burr and Linda Vail, have gone to great lengths to ensure that the hacienda is a place that visitors are reluctant to leave, and eager to return to, time and again. Guests soon come to realize why Hacienda Tamarindo was one of three Puerto Rican hotels to earn an entry in the best-selling tourism guide book, “1,000 Places to See Before You Die”.

Isla de Vieques is an island-municipality of Puerto Rico, which is located about 13 kilometers to the east of the mainland. Although Puerto Rico is part of the United States, over 400 years of Spanish history has had an indelible, and charming, influence on the Island. It is this charm that is carried throughout Hacienda Tamarindo. The atrium in the lobby features an ancient tamarind tree reaching three floors up in the center of the building. This 200-year-old tamarind tree served as the inspiration for the hacienda’s name.

Hacienda Tamarindo has sixteen large, superbly decorated en-suite rooms. Linda put her fifteen years of commercial interior design to good use, creating uniquely individual rooms that feature interesting art and antiques that she has collected over many years. The terraces, courtyards and parlors provide guests with plenty of opportunities to relax and enjoy one another’s company.

Just a pleasant stroll away from Hacienda Tamarindo, through coconut palms and majestic mahogany trees, guests can enjoy a refreshing dip in La Piscina – a huge fresh water pool with panoramic views of the Caribbean. Guests can order a picnic lunch to be ready the following morning to take along on their island exploration, or to be delivered to them at the poolside.

There are no hotels, beach bars or shops on Vieques beaches, just plenty of unspoiled soft white sand, fringed with palm trees and the warm Caribbean Ocean. Guests can rent a jeep to explore and visit the beaches scattered along the island. The closest beach to the Hacienda Tamarindo is Sun Bay, which is great for walking. A little further on, Media Luna offers visitors calm and shallow waters, while the waves at Navio offer body-surfing fun.

Puerto Rico is a very popular tourist destination, and the Hacienda Tamarindo is the perfect accommodation choice for visitors to Isla de Vieques.
