Puerto Del Rey Marina Facelift
With approximately one thousand one hundred slips and magnificent facilities, the Puerto Del Rey Marina in Puerto Rico is the Caribbean’s biggest marina. It lies just south of the town of Fajardo and is a colorful marina filled with motorboats, yachts and sailboats, that is also a home base for many fishing charters and boating operators. Restaurants and stores offer distraction to visitors who come to the marina to marvel at the docked boats and enjoy the beauty of the coast. But there are great plans in store for this wonderful marina, as a project is being launched to give the Puerto Del Rey Marina a facelift.
Some of the existing facilities at Puerto Del Rey Marina already make this breathtaking yachting and boating destination in Puerto Rico a world class facility. Refit centers, repair and maintenance and on land space for boats during hurricane season, have given the marina permanent customers who leave their boats here all year round. But with the new development of the five star hotel, the Cayo Largo Golf and Beach Resort and the Roosevelt Roads Airport in close proximity to the marina, and the increase of megayachts, has led the marina management to call in professionals to design and construct the new image for the marina.
Marvel & Marchand Architects and Jorge Rosello Interior Designers and Space Planners have been given the task of designing the multimillion dollar vision that will be constructed in two phases. The first phase of the project is estimated to be complete during the course of next year and will consist of upgrading the existing facilities and the addition of new modern bathrooms and showers, a swimming pool and fitness centre. The water sports centre, which is also part of phase one, will be able to offer fishing, diving and yachting excursion to tourists. Phase two will see the construction of a marina that will exclusively accommodate megayachts which will be located next to the existing marina. Plans for more restaurants, retail stores, a yacht club and a hotel will also be built during this phase, as well as luxury residential units.
It is hoped the improvements and remodeling project will increase the marina’s lure and popularity, while offering the quality service and facilities that has made the marina famous. Being able to welcome bigger yachts in the marina, and with the airport being constructed close to the marina, yacht owners will be able to leave their precious assets at the marina, and jet in by airplane to enjoy the open seas. Not many believe that such excellence can be improved upon, but the management of the Puerto Del Rey Marina are confident that the facelift will take the marina from extraordinary to indescribable magnificence.
