Discover Yabucoa - City of New Beginnings
The city of Yabucoa has an interesting history. It was originally a mountain town with little progress or development. In 1793, however, 25 acres of land was donated for the development of a city centre. In time, a church and jail were built and the cemetery was fenced. However Hurricane Santa Ana which hit in 1825 completely desolated this progress, leaving only the church standing. In three short years the jail was rebuilt and the town began to grow.
The town as it stands today is a calm and peaceful place. It has the ability to take one far away from the hustle and bustle of life and transport them to a place of peace and tranquility. Here is a place where you can just relax and spend quality time with your family. There are few distractions and the small beach gives a feeling of privacy and calmness. Of interest are the museums and old sugar mills. There is also an old ruin that can be viewed at your leisure.
The hotels in Yabucoa provide all the necessary comforts to make life here enjoyable. Not only do they serve decent meals but they have air conditioning for the hotter months, TV's in most rooms, and swimming pools to entertain the children. It used to be quite hard to reach Yabucoa by road but, since the building of the new highway, it is now possible to drive there from San Juan via the city of Fajardo.
