Suki said,

I will criticize the USA government. I think they have screwed over Puerto Rico in the worst way. And Puerto Rico is not the only one they have stunted and mistreated in a most hipocritical and shameful way.

One of the different things about American colonialism, one which has set it apart from other colonialisms of the past, is that it has set up a system of MANTENGO, which in reality is a subsidy to American industry.

As Mantengo $$$$$$$$$ arrives and distributed it gives the poor enough lee way to eat and consume junk, making many feel like they hit the lotto.

Although this system bothers many people, like you or I, it doesn't perturb the rabble, those who once didn't have a penny to their name.

Studies have proven that Consumerism is like a depression pill, it makes people temporarily happy. But this happiness is short lived and the frenzy to consume starts quickly after one gets home with a bag full of junk.

Therefore Consumerism is very adictive. People would buy anything, as proven by the madness seen in Puerto Rican Malls. Its normal to see people of all classes hitting the 99 cent stores as if there were no tomorrow. This has strenghtened the statehood movement beyond what even the Gringos ever wanted.

This might be why when people on the island and Ricans on this board hear you say,

"they have been stunted and mistreated in the most hipocritical and shameful way, " they don't know what you're talking about. LOL

I know what you mean, but try explaining that to most Ricans.

Most Ricans have internalized the Gringo world view of the nation created by God, and who criticises God anyway?

Why I think the poor are basically Conservative and a double edged sword for reforms.

I think Consumerism is the most important reason immigrants storm the gates of the U.S and Western Europe. They dream of bling, an SUV and electronic equipment galore. One just has to vist the malls on a Sunday to find immigrants with their families drooling at what they can buy. In fact, its all for the asking, by credit!

No, immigrants don't come here to seek out Liberty and Justice, though some might. Despite that Gringos love to use liberty and justice as a rational to strenghten their ego, its other things, mainly CONSUMERISM .

Despite immigrants knowing of rascism and inequality in the U.S., they take their chances coming here to get on the Consumerist gravy train they have been denied in their own countries.

Puerto Ricans have been on this train since the 70's and to take us off is going to be a BIG, BIG problem.

What is the answer? I don't know. I think sooner than later something gotta give, specially in Puerto Rico, where people, of all classes, swear that they can have a crack at more Mantengo + Consumerism via Statehood.

And about you Suki, be careful talking like you do, because if you were on the island your own people will run you out of town if you foul mouth the Gringos and the consumerist colonial system they have set up. LOL
