Talking Is Statehood an option?

Is Statehood an option? Ask any Puerto Rican, on the island and in the U.S. this question and they'll say, "What are you crazy , of course it is! Our American citizenship guarantees us that option. We only have to vote for it and PRESTO, Tomorrow we'll be the 51 state.

Most Puerto Ricans, Faraon included, really and honestly believe that we haven't been offered statehood because our politicians send Americans mixed messages, therefore we ARE THE PROBLEM.

Its common knowledge that every Puerto Rican who is not a Communist will vote for statehood. In fact immigrant Dominicans, Cubans and Mexicans are the first to join the statehooders as soon as they become citizens. Why? Who in their right mind is going to give up the safety nets of Food Stamps, section 8, and all the goodies that are sent to the island by Americans?

Most Puerto Ricans truely believe that because we are American citizens they CAN"T set us loose to swim with the sharks. Why? We don't know how, so they swear that Gringos are STUCK with us for eternity.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMM But what do the Gringos think? Will they, or what?

According to Prof. Manuel Rodriguez de Orellana:

"To the United States, Puerto Rican statehood would mean adding a state that would pay the least in taxes and receive the most in per capita federal transfers, have a larger congressional representation than 29 other states, conduct its everyday life (including executive, legislative, and judicial business) in a language other than English, and become a potential rallying point for minority demands in times of ethnic and social tensions. Besides, future generations are sufficiently unpredictable for the U.S. to risk a Caribbean Quebec or a tropical Northern Ireland."

MMMMMMMMMMM with what is happening with the immigration mess in the U.S., with all presidential candidates Stressing "WE MUST SPEAK ENGLISH, THIS IS AMERICA, with a rising tide of anti-Hispanic sentiment........ MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Is Puerto Rican statehood an option for THEM!

If not, What then?

I guess we better start taking lessons swimming with the sharks. LOL
