Papo,
I read your posting and I must say that although you made it clear that you hope this never happens, I can tell you for sure it never will! On the other hand, remember, freedom didn't come cheap to the United States, there was a lot of bloodshed to achieve this. No one, not even the founding fathers said that joining the Union would be a piece of cake. They knew that America was made up of immigrants and therefore there was always the prospects for civil confrontations/disagreement with the government. That's why, there are provisions to the constitution that calls for specific guidelines for those who wish to become a part of the Union. The reason "underground" groups or "guerrillas" in Puerto Rico are well trained is because 90% have served in the military and have been trained by the best, so it is obvious for that to be a fact. Still, they can get their "asses" royally whipped if necessary. They won't even know what hit them, believe me, in a blink of an eye they will be history. Now, I ask you, if that is the case, how come they have not acted upon after all of these years of the so called "oppression" they've been complaining about? The answer is that, #1 they have no money to operate, #2 they know they are not going to be successful, #3 they have no backbone, #4 technoligy has caugh up with them and they can be easily tracked.
Puerto Rico has never been incorporated to the Union not because of "Hawaii", but because Puerto Ricans have chose not to do so and it has no bearings with Hawaii's status. Besides, the pride of many Puerto Ricans of having their own olympic team representing them is something that for many is negotiable, in a way, I can understand that. It has nothing to do with culture or anything like that, because culture are values instilled on us by our parents and grandparents, if you don't believe me then tell me why is it that Puerto Ricans in the states feel as strong and care for our island even when they have never visited the island? That's because their parents kept those roots and traditions alive! Uncle sam or no one else for that matter took nor have been able to take that away from them. What it is, is that in Puerto Rico there are a bunch of hypocrits y "malagradecidos" who are selfish who don't care about anything but what's only best for them. They live a good life but yet are willing to spoil things for everybody else. Getting what they want would only mean a moral victory, because all they are going to do, is take are beautiful Puerto Rico back in time after all of these years of steady, economical and social progress. Puerto Rico has not become a state because the government "PPD" and "PIP" refuse to properly educate the public on those issue, they disinform the public and especially the elder, because they know that to instill fear on the hearts of those who are not sure, is securing a vote for them thus preventing such a process from taking place, they do this very well with the young as well. What a shame!
You take care and have a wonderful weekend coming up!
