Exclamation Oh dear!

frankly if there is a role for a latino character available in acting land out there I don't think a Gringa like you seem to be Deuxelle would get any support from the majority of Puerto Rico.com.

How nice of you to speak for all of us.

if you have half a brain Deuxelle you realize that calling every English speaking country on planet earth British is a mistake.

At what point did she call Puerto Rican's "Mexicans" or or any other error? Why are you attacking this girl? All the poor girl said was "Hi! My name is Alexa and I am searching for some help in developing my accent for a role I am planning to audition for in May. The character is Anita from West Side Story, and I thought that there might be someone who could give me some advice in making my accent more authentic." You yourself said, " it is a role that is stereotypical and not something realistic and accurate about the state of most Puerto Ricans...." and is that HER fault that some old guy in the 50's wrote a stereotyped play?

You say, "Many of the members in this forum are not Anita from West Side Story with accents and all, yet they are Puerto Ricans all the same. The play and the movie is almost 40 years old and a fine piece of art but we are tired (at least I am of non-Puerto Ricans portraying roles of peoples and communities that they are too lazy to do the research on). I am not an actress ......"

How on earth do you know she has NOT researched her role? It is interesting to note you feel strongly about this play in a positive and a negative way. A "fine piece of art" yet "old and stereotyped." Well, which is it, Suki? It is here in this last paragraph you can see the REAL problem, and the real problem is not Deuxelle and her undeserved half a brain. It's Suki's reluctance to attach anything negative to anything Puerto Rican, and also disgust for gringas playing Latina roles. Well, whose fault is the gringa role thing? It's the DIRECTORS. And as for the other thing......

Suki, it's okay to say West Side Story sucks. It's old and sterotyped. Your not a bad Puerto Rican for thinking so....most probably DO! But people who like acting want to be in plays, and it isn't about Puerto Ricans to most actresses. It's just a play that desperately needs to be updated. And that's not her fault.

Your bad attitude will get you nowhere.
