Thanks for the tip. I have been doing a bit of reasearch into PR and have heard that it has got a higher rate of car-jacking than LA. I'm not sure if that still holds true but yes it is a bit daunting coming from Australia. We don't get a lot of that sort of thing here. Unfortunately, I don't have any relatives in Puerto Rico to direct me from a local's perspective. I've heard that I should stay away from La Perla and some of the plazas after dark in San Juan. I would also like to perhaps hire a car and drive out to other parts of the island so I would certainly appreciate any more pointers from yourself or anyone out there.

So you visited Perth (my home city) 19 years ago. What brought you to Perth back then if you don't mind my asking?
