Dave...Isla Verde and Condado tend to be the safest areas, but they are also more expensive. You may want to try Miromar or Rio Piedras. Like any big city, there are going to areas that are dangerous and some that aren't. Pick up a copy of the Sunday San Juan Star to find apartment listings.
