Thumbs up

More often than not when your system (PC) starts acting up you throughout my years of experience and of cause my certified school training I've learned that most of the problem is due to the Operating System rather than Hardware problem. When I say and or refer to the Operating System am referring to System Files and Programs which happense to also be controled and manipulated through the Operating System as a whole. With time by mistake and other times just out of the blue's files will now and than become deleted, misplaced and or totally corrupted. This do happense even if you (The User) don't do anything to cause the problem.Performing basic maintenance will help keep the System running in good conditions by loading much faster. With time as one uses the computer and the more frequent one uses it,the more the Files will become misplaced on the Hard Drive, making it hard for files to be loaded and also making the computer work much slower. But,by performing basic maintenance at least one's a week it will help your computer work faster will at the same time saving you time and on the long run...Money due to Repairs. One of the very first thing that I highly recommend to ALL my clients is to perform regular maintenance. The following is the process to starting maintenance on your computer: Start by clicking on Start,Programs,Accessories,System Tools and double clicking on "Scan Disk".What Scan Disk does is the following.Scan Disk searches and repairs System Files including but not limited to programs files. It also searches for duplicate files, long files, corrupted files, changed files, and it also makes sure that all files can be read and executed. It is advisable to perform "Thorough" if and only if your've never performed such maintenance. Second and MOST important process is by all means..."Defrag".What Deframentation does is the following. With time and the more you use the computer the more files will become "Fragmented" meaning that files will be placed on many sections of the Hard Drive.Everything you store and up load into the computer goes directly into the Hard Drive where your Operating System and ALL programs reside. Here am trying NOT to be technical so as to be understood.Making any and all information as basic as possible for all PC owner's is and should be all PC technician's main concern. Now going back to our main topic which is "Defrag".So as I was saying, what Defrag does is place ALL the files where each belong,Lined-up.Many programs do have thousands of files specially any Operating System.By placing and lining up all the files,Windows does less searching and up-loads the System files along with what ever program you wich to work with and or up-load. The following is the process to performing maintenance through Defragmentation.Start by clicking on; Start,Programs,Accessories,System Tools and double clicking on "DEFRAG".Once you up-load "Defrag" follow the simple yet easy to read steps. When performing Scan Disk or Defrag try not be working with any program for it will only slow down the maintenance process. One's a week I will be posting many other HOW-TO maintenance Information that everyone can apply and use for the betterment of the computer.

Holy Cow!

You people are still using Windoze! I am about to become very ill! . Switch to the Linux operating system. Not only do you keep money out of the pockets of Bill Gates, you also greatly expand the capabilities of your pc. The fragmentation problem does not exist in most versions of Linux. They are based on the ext2 filing system, which logically and efficiently orders data clusters on your hard drive keeping fragmentation to a minimum. So you needn’t run a defrag utility in Linux.

Talking REGARDESS OF ANY OS...FRAGMENTATION IS UNAVOIDABLE

As a Professional General Computer Technician-Engineer I know by experience that ALL Operating System's need maintenance...period! Their isn't any Operating System that will run and function perfectly. So regardless of which Operating System any one runs, sooner or later maintenance must be performed.I understand that some Operating System's do run better than others but concerning maintenance, they ALL need it...regardless!
