Thumbs up

I am one of the very few Puerto Rican's I have found in the line of IT. I never thought of getting into computers in the 80's, but did so by accident. It really paid off for me BIG! I have pretty much done it all in IT--including IT management. I am now learning Linux and more of networking while waiting for next big thing. I have worked at a few startups in my career. I never say no to an opportunity and learn as much as I can. If you have the "it ain't my job" attitude, that will get you no where--especailly in tough times while the economy is flat. I have to admit, it is a tough job, but I have been very successful in my career.

If anyone is looking for some helpful tips, I will definitely reply. I'm suprised to not see more PRs in technology. It really is a great field and shows that we have much more skills.

Congrats on your success...

I like working with Linux too, specifically RedHat...

I just do it as a hobby...not a profession...let the greengos have it for themselves. They like collecting "failed .com" pink slips.

In my opinion, the companies that are going to wire the new web services together and bring the internet into the new age already exist and already have their people to do the job.

I'm going to become a doctor or something else cooler.

Unhappy

Yeah, sounds like this is definitely not for you. You are wrong though that you should leave it for the Greengos. That's the same attitude that brings down many Latinos. It was also dished out to me by my family, but I didn't let it get to me. They all envy me now.

There is room for more people in this industry. Good solid people. There are definitely few of them. You are also wrong about the internet being done. It is always evolving. That's what technology is all about.

Become a doctor? Sorry, but many people find out that being a doctor is a lot of work. Much more than what I do. Also, you need certification and a degree. Also, you open the door for law suits and such. I rather fix computer than people any day. At least if I lose one of my patients, it won't hurt as much .

Anyway, you are young and have energy. Definitely pick a career that you like and never let anyone/anything tell you that you can't be something better.

Well I am an IT professional. Not by choice, though. I started working in the field in PR in early 80's and now I work where I live in USA.
I don't think there are just a few of us in the field.

Hello RumNCoke (for some undisclosed reason I love your name), hipo, and groverat (Mr. Linux?).

I had been in this wierd industry since the early 80's too and had make more money in it than my secondary job as CPA.

I am here to share with you guys all the goodies about computers and hopefully bring new faces.

I would like to use your expertize in helping forum members with computer issues, so please help (for free).

I will be monitoring only for vulgarities (so watch your language if you drop a tower case on your foot), that is my responsibility, and I hope to assist many users too(with you guys looking over my shoulder).

Yes, I am a Techierican, an old one, but still resolve computers glitches here and there.

Let's see how much damage we can do.!!!!
