Hmm, I don't see too much activity here. Maybe everyone fixed their problems with the computers.

Well in that case, let's had fun with some computer trivia.

Question:

What is IRQ-5 used for? Meaning original purpose.

Typically is used for the sound card. But remember, when the at system was introduced, they moved hard dis controller (which use to control those massive 10meg hard drives) to irq 4. Freeing up irq5 to control 8bit devices. Hence irq 5 became one of the busiest of all. Handling lpt2, com3 or 4. Nic. The list goes on. Rememeber pci steering is now used. So sharing irqs is allowed. GOODBYE !

Very good.

Way before hard drives, sound cards, modems, network cards, serial mouse, there was only one use for IRQ-5.

The primary function of IRQ-5 was for Line Printer 2 (LPT2).

While LPT1 was using 7.

Hard drives was fun to setup, especially using the 8-bits ISA half cards.

Later when 16-bit bus was available, the hard drives started using IRQ-14 for primary and IRQ-15 for secondary.

Nacionalista, I like that definition--much more concise and specific than the one above. Good answer, though, jesus. But you seemed frustrated by the question when you wrote "GOODBYE!" so emphatically and abrubtly. It's only trivia, bro. Looking forward to more Q&A with you both.

I am pretty good with the PC however my daughter downloaded a instant message program that seems to have a pop up capability. I have been trying to eliminate it however it still shows up. I think that it must be residing in more than one place in the C drive. Is that possible?
