Revelation 1

Prologue

1The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, 2who testifies to everything he saw--that is, the Word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. 3Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.
The revelation that Jesus gave to the Apostle John. This, as we will read further, happened in the times of Emperor Domitian, when John was deported briefly to the Penal Colony at the Isle of Patmos. Interestingly it is an island of the size and geography similar to the Puerto Rican island of Culebra, though not so warm in Winter Months, sine it is not a tropical island. Like Culebra, it is a very dry island, and water has to be shipped in. As a Penal Colony, it was a place where prisoners were taken to be banished.

Domitian was the Roman emperor from 81-96 A.D. Interestingly, even though Domitian was an Emperor known for persecuting First Century A.D. Christians, and killing them, he did not do so with the old Apostle John, who should have been in his eighties or nineties. There is a legend that John had been first boiled in oil and did not die, and subsequently was sent to Patmos. However, this alleged event was not mentioned in John's own writing, though he does mention that he was sent to Patmos because of the Word of God and the Testimony about Jesus, that is, for Preaching the Good News about Jesus.

John says that he states for the Record that he wrote is what he saw: "The revelation of Jesus Christ whi He made known via an Angel to John, who testifies to everything he SAW". This is important, since many modern scholars like to conjecture that John made the whole thing up to encourage the early Christians. If he had made the whole thing up, then we waste our time here with a LIE. But if John the Apostle really SAW what he wrote about, then the blessing that Jesus promises to the readers of this Book in the Bible is REAL, and we do well in reading and studying it.

It is a three-fold blessing:
1 - Blessed are the readers.
2 - Blessed are the listeners (obviously those who can't read).
3 - Blessed are the ones who take "what is written" to Heart. Obviously, in those violent Roman Times, taking things to heart doesn't mean to wishfully take the writings as "imaginary poetry", but taking the writings seriously as a REAL Vision of things seen in Heaven and events which will happen. Thus, making any allegation of FRAUD on the part of John doubly important, since it was a Book addressed to People Doomed to Roman Persecution; you don't purposely deceive people who are doomed to die for their unseen faith unless you are a 1000% Scoundrel. I am sure the 90 year old John was not a Scoundrel nor a Liar.

So the Blessing is the Carrot after which we will read and study this Book of the Bible, I need to be Blessed, and so does anyone who lives in this difficult 21st Century world.

Revelation 1:4-8
4John,
To the seven churches in the province of Asia:
5Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits before his throne, and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.
6To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father--to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.
7Look, he is coming with the clouds,
and every eye will see him,
even those who pierced him;
and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen.
8"I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty."
John, the 90 year old Apostle writes to the Seven Churches in Asia. As we will later read, John here is being obedient to Jesus who ordered him to write these things and send them to the those seven churches in the Roman Province called Asia. There were many more cities in this Roman province than just seven, yet Jesus did not order John to write to any of them except these few ones. By this time the entire Roman Empire had a Christian Church in every town and city, of which were in the thousands of cities spread across this vast Empire, and the population of the Roman Empire back then was in the tens of millions, yet Jesus only chose these seven churches to send personally a revelation concerning the final defeat over evil and death itself. This is very interesting, and we will explore this later on.

"Grace and Peace".
Wow, today there is a church in a town nearby called with this name, and it is a nice church. But lets see what these imparted blessings mean. Grace, from which we get our Spanish word GRATIS, means basically that: "For Free". It is something you get without having earned it. It is something someone gives you as a gift. It is yours to take it. We use this word well when describe something valuable that is received without payment, otherwise there is no point in saying that something is "For Free" if it is cheap and worthless. Cheap and worthless objects we simply call garbage. When something is really "For Free" then we are usually talking about Color Televisions, or Computers "For Free"; something worth receiving and very costly, yet "For Free", and therefore it brings lots of satisfaction to receive it.

With regards to the Gospel, the word in Greek being Evangelion, which means Good Message, the word GRATIS can only point to ONE THING, SALVATION. SALVATION is the action of God saving undeserving human beings from the Eternal Punishment that they truly deserve. According to this same book, Revelation, that deserved reward for humans was first created to punish the fallen Cherubim called Light Bearer (Isaiah 14:12) by the Prophet Isaiah, and in Hebrew Shatan in a few Old Testament passages and in the New Testament, the word which means the Opponent, or in military terms the Adversary. Interestingly the Arabic word Saddam means the same thing, the Adversary, and it is currently the name of a bloody dictator in the Middle East. But I digress here, the important thing to bear in mind is that the punishment prepared for that the fallen Cherubim is a never-ending Lake of Fire and Sulphur. Revelation 21:7-9 declares it this way: But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, those who practice pornoia, those who practice pharmakia, the idolaters and all liars--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death. Evidently anyone with an ounce of honesty towards the TRUTH and toward themselves realizes that he or she deserves this "reward" (after all, we have all lied at least once in our lives...). That is why SALVATION is so IMPORTANT, ESSENTIAL and CRITICAL. When we compare a never-ending Lake of Fire and Sulphur that we deserve to a lifetime of pain and suffering here on planet Earth, there is no doubt as to how IMPORTANT is to be SAVED from what we deserve. Lets mention it again: the Ratio of Suffering between the worst life lived on planet Earth during 80 years to an ETERNITY of TORMENT, results in
Quote:
very tiny : INFINITELY HUMONGOUS
Need I say more?

Thus, the MOST IMPORTANT MESSAGE in the entire Bible is SALVATION!!!
The Apostle Paul states it this way:
Quote:
8For it is by grace (GRATIS) you have been saved (liberated from our deserved reward...), through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- 9not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8,9
SALVATION is a gift ! And it is received through faith. Not through vows that you make, you can't buy it with money, you can't work to get it, it is a GRATIS gift; and a VERY EXPENSIVE GIFT, since it cost the Blood of God the Son.

Now that I think about it, I forgot to mention the second Blessing PEACE, also given to the churches via the old Apostle John by the Triune God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Gratis and Peace are always mentioned hand in hand. Why? The word that the Apostles used in Hebrew to salute each other whenever they entered or left a home was SHALOM. I am no expert in Hebrew, but Jews themselves always say that SHALOM conveys wholeness, being placed at [p]PEACE[/b] means to be SET WHOLE. Perhaps someone here, like me, had been abused as a child, and what we seek above all things is to be MADE WHOLE. Like a broken toy, or like a broken vessel that needs to be put together in order to work, SHALOM conveys the idea of RESTORATION. It is no surprise that the Latin word from which we get our word salute, and in Spanish we describe HEALTH, SALUD, is so closely related to the Hebrew word in two of its three consonants. If we access our mother-tongue Spanish, the word Salud conveys not only health, but it is also the root word for the famous word here: SALVATION. Thus I come back to the beginning thought: GRATIS and PEACE, which we could make into our own binomial here: SALUD GRATIS, or SALVATION for FREE. And, right now I am running out of time. For those who want to explore on the VALUE or COST of this SALVATION GRATIS, read the first letter of another Apostle: Peter, chapter one. It summarizes better than what I can write what SALVATION is all about.

Now, we are not only saved from an eternal doom, but we are saved so that we become priests and kings. Priests are by nature two things: servants dedicated to the worship of God and also bridge-makers to represent and intercede in behalf of the relationship between human beings and God. As human beings bought at the Price of the Blood of the Son of God, we have the duty and priviledge of standing in the gap in favor of humanity, so that human beings who do not yet accept Jesus as their King and Savior have the chance to do so. Thus we have a duty to pray for those who do not believe, for those who are working to reach those who do not yet believe, and for those who are unwilling to believe that God may have mercy of them. And our priestly duties also include worship, which is the TOTAL EXALTATION of God over His Creation, the TOTAL RECOGNITION of His DEEDS, the TOTAL SURRENDER of all things of worth before the Throne and dedicating them to Him who created them and gave them their worth. The word worship is derived from the word worth, and to give worship means to ascribe worth to the Person being worshiped. There are many objects and many persons and things that are worshiped here on Earth, but ONLY ONE truly deserves all worship, GOD HIMSELF. And, because God is ONE BEING with Three Personalities, we see here that God the Father has no trouble in sharing the worshipful adulation being bestowed upon the Son; there is no usurpation here, nor condescendence here: Jesus deserves as much Honor as the Father, and the Father is delighted that the Son receives all the Glory.

Now, to make things more interesting for us as to the IDENTITY of Jesus and His Father, an Old Testament Prophesy is quoted here at the end of the passage, in verse seven, and it carries to verse eight. The quote comes from the Prophet Zechariah, who was God's messanger during the time when the Jews came back from exile in Babylon, no more a Sovereign Nation, but a mere Persian Province. He wrote:
Quote:
9 On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem. 10 "And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son. 11 On that day the weeping in Jerusalem will be great, like the weeping of Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.
Zecharaiah 12:9-11
There is no doubt about the IDENTITY, only a TRIUNE GOD can fill in those blanks without contradiction and confusion. Those who believe and teach about a God and a servant little puny "god" will always be confused with these texts in the Bible, and with the rest of the Bible for that matter. But all of us who love and worship Jesus will always find ourselves that worshiping the Son is to worship the Father.

A final note: it is clear with the Prophesy from Zechariah, which Jesus et.al. pronounces in front of John has the added hope and PROMISE that the Jewish Nation will one day believe in Jesus as their Messaih. By the way, the name Jesus is in Hebrew Ya-Shúa, which literally means Yahweh Saves. Man, when the Jews discover that Yahweh, the One who liberated them from Egypt and gave them His Word was the One they have rejected all this time, they will indeed mourn and weep! I hope that the grief they bear will be for SALVATION, as Paul says it this way: <<2 Corinthians 7:10 - 10 Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.>> Clearly some will not have a Godly sorrow, but a bitter and unconsolable grief, for those who refuse to the end to accept Jesus will regrettably weep as "an unconsolable loss" when they realize what they will miss...

Talking I forgot to address this last verse, number 8...

Man, did I overlook an important verse!!! This verse is like the THUMBPRINT of the real AUTHOR of the Book of Revelation. It is the SIGNATURE, which makes it different from any other Book in the Bible. Even atheists remember this "Alpha and Omega" saying.

Why does God say this?

This, is a signet ring mark. In those ancient times there was no such thing as finger-print technology, or the art and science of matching signatures. People would go to a jeweler and request a signet ring be made. With this signet ring the owner would sign in wax and/or clay a "difficult to copy" SIGNATURE. There were no photocopiers back then, so a signet ring markings were tough to duplicate. Lets say I asked the jeweler to make me a signet ring with a lion near a house. Anyone could ask the same deal, but since the jeweler had to etch out the figure in a hard jewel stone, there was an instant guarantee that no two signet rings were identical.

Well, lets see thie signet ring signature:

Quote:
Isaiah 41:4 Who has done this and carried it through, calling forth the generations from the beginning? I, the LORD--with the first of them and with the last--I am he."
Quote:
Isaiah 44:6 "This is what the LORD says-- Israel's King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God."
Quote:
Isaiah 48:12 "Listen to me, O Jacob, Israel, whom I have called: I am he; I am the first and I am the last."
Three times God called Himself the First and the Last. Now, some "smart allec" here will say "but First and Last is not the same as "Alpha and Omega"..." Here is where we separate children from grown ups: when Isaiah wrote his Prophesy there was virtually no Greek Alphabet. There was a Hebrew Alphabet, also called called by most "scholars" Phoenician Alphabet, which by the way, back then before the Babilonian Captivity when the surviving Jews adopted the Babilonian Alphabet, the Hebrew Alphabet was VERY SIMILAR to the Alphabet the Greeks adopted, so we can speculate on who was a higher culture, whether Israeli or Greek... Anyway, before there was any Greek Alphabet, God labeled Himself "I am the first and I am the last".

Then, almost 800 years later, when He makes Himself seen and known to the elderly John, He pronounces His signet ring "signature".

To make matters more simple to us who believe God to be TRIUNE, Jesus Himself calls Himself First and Last.
Quote:
Revelation 1:17,18 17When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: "Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.
No DOUBT, Yahweh and Yeshúa are the same BEING!!!

Angry Your theory is an abomination,.....

Jibaro,

How can you be so irresponsible? Why do provide only half of the information? Finally, why do you try to support manmade doctrine, Jibaro it will never work, God is perfect man is not.

Jibaro you failed to also expose the fact a truth of Revelation 1: verse 8 also over eight centuries thereafter whereas Jehovah/Yahwah states "Yo soy el Alfa y la Omega-dice Jehovah-, Aquel que es y que era y que viene, el todopoderoso. "notice here when he refers to himself he establishes the Alfa and Omega, also y is called the todopoderoso and not El Poderoso, there is a difference, way big here. Also note that Jesus always called upon his Father, but you will never see or find Jehovah calling upon Jesus Christ as his father, I wonder why, hmmmmmmm..... I have never seen the Holy Spirit Jehivah's invisible force also refer to either,, Jesus nor Jehovah, I wonder why? hmmmmmmmmmmmm.............

Talking No DOUBT, Yahweh and Yeshúa are the same BEING!!!

Oops, I forgot to tie the TWO SAYINGS "I am the Alpha and the Omega" with "I am the First and the Last"; here is the EVIDENCE :

Yeshúa (Jesus for those of you who did not know ) said to the Apostle John:
Quote:
Revelation 22: 12,13 12 "Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End".
As they say in my Puerto Rican homeland: "¡¡¡Más claro no canta un gallo!!!"

Which in "New Jerseyean" is "It can't get clearer than that!!!"

Your are playing with your life

Jibaro,

I warn you! I really hope you actually believe in the Trinity, since you are gambling with your life, however if you have a minimun doubt of the Man made Doctrine, I am telling you will be part of the following scriptures:

Revelation 22:18 " I am bearing witness to everyone that hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone makes an addition to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this scroll";
22:19 "and if anyone take anything away from the words of the scroll of this prophecy, God will take his portion away from the trees of life and out of the holy city, things which are written about in this scroll." (By the way This Jehovah speaking)

I am warning for the last time.

Your theories are weak too weak, you basically support a dual God and not the Trinity, thus disvalidating completely your basic argument, that is understandable since the Bible just will never support three nor two gods; Your false teachings are the same of the prophecies related to the Anti-Christ that are to come in these days, in other words repent your ways will never occur, it just will not happen. You are trying to fit a man-made teaching (doctrine (develop a few centuries ago))into a Sacred Book (Impossible) Perhap you can take from here and there then use a mankind common sense opinion but that never amounts to a fact. (noticed I said mankind common sense)

You see my Brother the last verse you quoted was never spoken by Jesus but by Jehovah himself. He speaks and mentions the Alfa and Omega three time in the Holy Bible, these three times on which Jehovah speaks, is directly from the heavens. He initiated with the Alfa and Omega all three times.(see Revelation 1:8, 21:5-8 and 22:12-15. The scriptures you state to be quoted by Jesus is wrong since it was not Jesus, Jesus commences to speak at the chapter 22:16).

That is why false or misleading theory about the Beginning and End and Alfa and Omega to be used by lack of language is totally an abomination a slander and flat out lie. Both terms were used during the New testament, thus noting and accenting a distintion between father and son.

Again, it seems now that you are a Binary believer since you only point out the Heresy belive of or with only the Father and the son, so where is the Holy spirit here?, hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Talking There are no Tetragrammatons in Revelation, nor the rest of the New Testament.

It is very interesting how some religious fanatics afirm that YHWH speaks in one place and not in another, when there are no "YHWH" written in the entire New Testament.

As a matter of FACT, there are around 24,000 old hand copies of the New Testament (for those in Palm Beach County, Printing in Europe and the Middle East was not invented until 1400 years after the New Testament was written by hand), and of those 24,000 copies NONE have the Sacred Hebrew Tetragrammaton (YHWH). So, if you find a pompous religious nut making empty groundless threats, don't pay any attention, because the New Testament itself is its best witness in favor of Jesus being the First and the Last, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End.

For any "Jehovah" Witness that may have any doubts about the identity of the "First and the Last" in this forum, go to a Bible Study by one of your own (I personally, have never been a "Jehovah" Witness, I have always been a Jesus witness ), an EX-"Jehovah" Witness:
