Well, dont tell Senator Miriam Rodriguez De Ferre, the biggest critic of Governess Sila Calderon, a PNP Republican who would risk her life to save...the USA! She had the nerve to bring the USA flag to the town square of Vieques when NY Governor Pataki came for a vote grabbing visit.Cultural scientists at the University of Puerto Rico call this new wave or strenghthened wave of Puerto Rican pride, puertorriquenoismo. The Vieques issue has certainly destroyed or injured the relationship between Puerto Rico and the USA, I guess we cant ask for that free trade after all umong OTHER nations. So if this is going to cost us so much in money( the usa is setting tarrifs against us on rum now one), pride( the PNP is trying to mock hte anti-navyiests by setting insulting bills in Congress) and votes if this gets out of hand or doesnt work for the PPD there will be another PNP rule under Jorge Santini, then why do it, why denounce the USA in so many ways. The USA flag, which now many Puerto Ricans spit on, but the other way around is that statehooders spit on the PR flag which so many have died or been arrested to show. All this and when you ask a person who WANTS the Navy out of Vieques,"you want the Navy out, but do you want the USA out too?" NO NO NO, we want the Navy out of Vieques but not independence.
This puzzles me, I am not offended by this remark and if you asked an independentista this he or she will say yes to both, a estadista, he or she will say no to both or yes to the first remark, but a populares, the 48% group of PR, he or she will say yes to one, no to both. This is unusual, most of the Puerto Rican people and many statehooders not in power want the Navy out but are also slapping the face of Uncle Sam and doing so much that angers Americans citizens and American Polititicans alike that can destroy our future together don't want the very thing in the eyes of the USA seems we do or should if the Navy leaves. Why do you think they say this? Fear, uncertaintly, ignorance? I would like to hear it.

I would show both the U.S. and The Puerto Rican Flag.
I am both Puerto Rican and a U.S. citizen and I HAVE TO RESPECT BOTH NATIONS FOR SHOWING ME THE VALUE OF LIBERTY, PATRIA, AND PERSONAL PRIDE TO BE PART OF BOTH COMMUNITIES. WE MUST ALL REMEMBER HOW SACRADE A NATION'S FLAG IS AND WE MUST RESPECT THEM ALL. IF MAINLAND AMERICANS ARENT "DISTURBING" OUR FLAG WE SHOULD NOT "DISTURB" THERE'S OR ANY ONE ELSES FOR THAT MATTER. P.S. I have yet to see protesters messing around with the Navy's flag....strange..... |

You are right, except not all of Puerto Ricans feel that way. Actually most dont, because everytime their is an important invent in PR, like Tito´s next win or an election, the flag we take out is the Puerto Ricans, and its the hardcore PNP who only take out the USA flag. We should respect eachothers flag, but I feel I am a Puerto Rican first, everything else second, but thats my opinion and I repect any that you might have!

How Ironic
Amigo Hombreciudad,
How come you have the pictures of Luis Muņoz Marin and Don Albizu Campos together. It is ironic to see a picture of the victim and the persecutor together. For me, Don Albizu was a honorable man and patriot, even if his methods to obtain Freedom were a little to violent, but never the less, he stuck to his belief to the very end. Don Luis, who did a lot for the Island changed his mind from Independence to the so-called Commonwealth. Can you tell me why you have them together? We all know how the PPD in the forties and fifties persucuted Don Albizu and the Nationalist up until the break up of the party as a political force on the island. How ironic... Conguero |

i would have both flags up high, im very proud to be puerto rique~a, and a u.s citizen.. besides the fact that my parents, brother, sister and i were all born in the u.s , we've NEVER lost our culture, our parents have ALWAYS taught us the special and important thing of P.R..
but then again i wouldnt feel offened if soemone just brought one flag.. thats their choice, and i would respect it.. if it gives them honor..then im happy for them!
