PIP claims approval of over 50 bills this year
Thursday, December 26th, 2002. Puerto Rico WOW.com SAN JUAN (AP) – Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP) Rep. Victor Garcia San Inocencio claimed that the Legislative Assembly approved some 50 bills that he authored this year. "We have achieved the approval of more than 50 bills, between bills and resolutions, that attend to strategic areas of the island," the PIP representative said in a press release. Among the bills, he mentioned the increase to fines for violations to the Governmental Ethics Code, the prohibition for breast-feeding mothers to be called to jury duty, and the surplus money from the Electoral Fund to be designated to another fund to help automate Puerto Rico’s electoral process. Another bill of the PIP’s initiative, approved and awaiting the signature of Gov. Sila Calderon to become law is the statute about job security, Garcia San Inocencio said. Likewise, he said pursued dozens of resolutions to investigate social problems, such as the functioning of the Police Department, the high tendency for cesarean sections, and the elimination of 41 steps of the processes to request permits, among another 11.
