Sex education in public schools supported
Thursday, June 5th, 2003. SAN JUAN (AP) – The heads of two government agencies said Tuesday that they favor a bill that establishes sex education in public schools as public policy. Iris Gautier, legal advisor of the Youth Affairs Office, emphasized the importance of the bill because one of every five births is to a mother less than 20 years old. "One of the focal points of this situation is the unimportance given to the discussion of sexuality in our schools and families," Gautier said in a public hearing of the House Education & Culture Committee. However, "children are not raised at school, but obtain their values of how to treat their partner in the community," said Dr. Edward Chicowicz, director of the adolescents program in the Health Department, for which he stressed that the "bill is necessary but not enough."

I support sex ed in PR schools
Hopefully this bill will become a reality, we have neglected our children in this particualr area of education.
Why has been sex been such a taboo at our schools? Is it because we're following religious principles at schools? How UNCONSTITUTIONAL. |
