Puerto Ricans May Vote To Boot Navy

WASHINGTON (AP) - Gov. Pedro Rosello of Puerto Rico predicted Tuesday that residents of the tiny Puerto Rican island of
Vieques will vote to expel the U.S. Navy from its training range there.

As part of an arrangement that enabled the Navy to resume training on Vieques this month, the Navy agreed that a referendum
would be held on whether it could continue to operate its bombing range. The referendum is to be held as early as August 2000 or
as late as February 2002, with the date to be set by the Navy.

Rosello, in a meeting with reporters, said he hoped the referendum would be held before the end of this year.

``I think the outcome of the referendum will be one that will support in a very solid manner the termination of the presence of the Navy in Vieques,'' the governor said. He said that would be his personal preference, too, although there would be no organized Puerto Rican government
campaign for it.
``This is a decision that has to come from the people of Vieques,'' he said.

Los izquierdistas y los colonialistas no desean darle crédito al mejor tratado logrado en la historia de PR por un Gobernador. Los invito a leer el plan de trabajo aprobado entre nuestro Presidente Clinton y Rosselló. Donde se le da el poder al pueblo de Vieques a decidir su destino y además se le asigna una partida de 40 millones entre otros planes. La Marina ya ha comenzado a entregar terrenos que no usa para ampliar el aeropuerto.

La posiciones de nuestro Gobernador son claras y precisas. Aquellos que viven de los reportes de prensa para confundir y sembrar la discordia son los que maquinan encontra del pueblo de Puerto Rico. Desde que Rosselló era candidato a la Gobernación lo insultaban de "candidato frabricado", y como lo han visto ustedes, ha ganado dos elecciones corridas con el 51% de los votos. Caramba yo creo que los frabricados son de los verdes y los rojos.

Además, no hay tan solo una evidencia científica de que la Marina es la causante de enfermedades en Vieques. Señores, los que presentan esa desinformación son los agentes pagados por el equipo verde y tal vez el rojo. Se valen de cualquier cosa para hacer quedar mal al Gobernador y a la Marina, por el simple hecho de ganar votos. Gracias a Dios que el Partido de Gobierno no sufre de esa esquizofrenia política, porque no tiene hambre de ganar como los partidos de minoría.
