help finding family
Hey! I read your post and it sounds a lot like my search. My dad was in the army also, I never knew him. I wrote to the Veterans Administration. Gave them my dad's info. If he is alive they will forward a letter to him from you, if he's deceased, they will tell you. My dad died in 1981, so after they told me that I got his death certificate which listed his last address. I went there and met his wife! She wouldn't give me any info(found out he cheated on her with my mom.) I thought all hope was lost until I read about posting ads in the newspaper El Nuevo Dia in PR. You go to Elnuevodia.com, click on cartas, and write your ad, it's free. I got a response less than two weeks later from my aunt!!! Just make sure you put all the info about your dad you know, especially his parents names, that's how my aunt knew it was about her brother.I am flying out to PR in two weeks to meet my family, they never knew I existed! You can call the Veterans Admin. and they will tell you exactly what to do, if you haven't already. Good luck, let me know what happens, or if you have any other questions!!!
