Hi! I am a Puertorriquen mom of 6 kids: 4 girls 24, 21, 17, and 11 and 2 boys 20 and 15. They were raised army style by me. Stict and everything clean and well managed. They were never sent to day care and I didn't work until the youngest went to school. I've always had loaded guns in my house. The kids know it and have been warned by me the following: "OK kids, these are loaded guns, please do not touch and DO NOT go to school or anywhere else and shoot anyone". I have shown them the guns, they know where they are and thank God so far they have respected my orders as well as the guns themselves. Then again, the same goes with money, ect...
I think that the reason kids do things like shootings is because they have alot of inside built anger and because they are kids they cannot control their emotions. It's difficult for us adults to control our anger; imagen children. I think the main cause for kids to do this is BUILT UP ANGER due to many reasons: rejection, divorce, loneliness, ect... I also believe that no matter how good a job parents do, some kids will just turn out bad. Take Ted Bundy for example. Raised by Baptist parents in a Christian enviroment and yet look at the horrible murders he commited. I guess as parents we have to do our best and hope for the rest. Sincerely |

I agree that a parent can do everything right and still have some kids turn our right and others turn out bad. We are living in very competive times. Kids have a lot of pressure on them today.
Violence breads violence. Never in my dreams could I have imaganed a boming like okaloma city or the shoot out at columbine highschool which is withing an hours drive of my house. We live in a more violent time because these things have happened. Perhapes if we did not make guns a forbiden fruit they would not be the novialties that they are. Teach kids responsibile gun use. There is nothing wrong with target practicing in an appropriate area. I do not have all the answers but you sound like a very good parent! ------------------ Shan "MLMer" Ziel www.shanziel.com http://www.freeyellow.com/members8/s...FREELINKS.html |

Hey J Bigham,
I think one of the things that has changed is the fact that you now have parents that actually buy guns for their children and teach them how to shoot. One of the first things that I noticed about your commentary is that you ordered your children not to touch the guns you have in your house. More importantly, I think that you--unlike some other parents--have remained the boss. Too many parents today don't pay any attention to what their children are doing. Too many parents allow their children to run the house. Keep up the good work. Peace, lja |
