I'm from Hawaii and I think that I'm jealous of my sister! HELP!!!

Hi I'm 18 years old and live with my mom. I'm in college and my older sister just moved with us 2 months ago. I thought that it was going to be a great idea, but I guess it was not a great idea. My sister is 30 years old and she was born in Hawaii, but lived in California most of her life.
My mother babies here and does what ever she wants. Do you think that I'm jealous? My mother seems to treat a little different since she came down. My sister now works with my mom and my mom said that if she were to move to Hawaii she would have to find a job some where else besides her job. I guess she went on her word.
What should I do?

Hi Hannah,

I read your post and I have some advice for you. I am not sure if you are really jealous or not. Something I am almost sure of is that you are hurt because your mom is not paying as much attention to you as she did when you were living alone with her.

I also know first hand how hard it can be to have that age difference with a hermana. You are 12 years apart, and maybe that has a little bit to do with it. I have 3 sisters who are all in their mid to late 30's and I am 24. So, growing up was a little more tough, because I felt left out of a lot of stuff.

I personally think you should try to talk to your madre on a one on one kind of basis. Explain to her how you feel, and let her know you miss her time that she use to have for you. Suggest to her that the two of you maybe go to dinner one night, or spend some time together.

As for your hermana, I would try asking her to do something with you, just you and her . You might be surprised as to what you have in common with her.

Just remember, nothing is ever settled by keeping your feelings and emotions bottled up inside. Talking calmly about it is usually the best bet.
