OK, call me cheap, but I don't like going to hotels that charge as much in day as I pay for my mortgage in New Jersey in a month.
Go to the Paradores [our country inns], they are inexpensive and some of them are really close to the beaches and places of interest [like Guajataca].
Go to this sites:
http://www.prtc.net/~migrios/weekend.htm
also:
http://www.prtourism.com/tps_acco.asp and go to item number 5.
From those "inns" you can visit places like El Morro, El Yunque, the Arecibo Observatory, the Camuy Caves, the Phosphorescent Bay [La Parguera], Cayo Ratones in Joyuda, I could go on and on... and take advantage of the fact that Puerto Rico is NICE ALL OVER THE PLACE, that you are not better off at a resort.
