Why is PR so expensive

Don't get me wrong, I love Puerto Rico. I spent a year as an exchangestudent in Aguada 7 years ago. But now that I'm going back with my family I can't find a decent place to stay that's affordable for 4 persons.
3 weeks in a hotel or cabin is simply going to ruin us. Please help me find a cheap place in Aguada/Rincon.
We also need a place in San Juan for a few days when we arrive in mid-October all the way from Denmark. It must be possible, I believe I met a few ordinary poeple when i went - they can't all be millionares.

From my research the paradors seem the most reasonably priced.

Are there any to avoid?

In Rincon there is a cheap parador right on the beach, it is by no means fancy but they can accomodate families cheaply and the beach and people are fantastic. In The matropolitan area I would recomend the El San Juan Towers, they offer efficiencies and apartments. Get the Que Pasa for excellent information and phone #.
