Hi guys
I'm a 23 yr old bi male (mostly gay) from Melbourne, Australia. I will be travelling to Puerto Rico next year and would love to make some friends so I've got somebody to hang out with when I'm there. I'm looking for penpals - male/female, sexual orientation not important so long as if you are gay or bi, you're out. The closer you are to my age the better 'coz that way we'll have more in common with each other also, you'll have the energy to keep dancing with me when we go out. I love to dance. I would love to get into the culture, sights and sounds of your island. Hablo un poco espan~ol tambien. My ethnic background is very mixed. Naci en India y llego en Australia cuando era 15 an~os. Please excuse my Spanish by the way. Mi abuela was puertorriquen~a but unfortunatley I never got to experience much of the culture. My roots go back to a few other parts of the world too pero I'll tell you about that another time. Hasta luego X |

I recommend you do some serious research into Puerto Rico's current social situation before going there. I live in Los Angeles, California but travel to PR once a year to visit family. As a result of local family residents, I am able to get around the island and avoid the more dangerous areas where one might be susceptible to a car-jacking, armed robbery, etc. Unfortunately (and I state this with much embarassment) the crime incidences are high. Australia, on the other hand, is not bound by high crime rates; at least that's how I remember the Aussie nation when I visited Perth 19 years ago. My recommendations: Find a relative who will give you direction before arriving there. Good luck

Hi Tipo-Con-Suerte
Thanks for the tip. I have been doing a bit of reasearch into PR and have heard that it has got a higher rate of car-jacking than LA. I'm not sure if that still holds true but yes it is a bit daunting coming from Australia. We don't get a lot of that sort of thing here. Unfortunately, I don't have any relatives in Puerto Rico to direct me from a local's perspective. I've heard that I should stay away from La Perla and some of the plazas after dark in San Juan. I would also like to perhaps hire a car and drive out to other parts of the island so I would certainly appreciate any more pointers from yourself or anyone out there. So you visited Perth (my home city) 19 years ago. What brought you to Perth back then if you don't mind my asking? |
