Dept of Corrections: Florida???? Anyone??

I wish to correspond with anyone that is employed by the DOC in Florida in order to exchange information since I am seriously considering moving to Florida. I have 7 years in Corrections, Probation and Parole and am bilingual. If anyone can help please email me.

Friendly advise....Stay out of Florida.Im a retired federal police Officer....Law enforcement in this State for lacking better words "SUCKS"....Trust me on this one....deal with snow,different shifts..whatever it is you want to change on your life somewhere else. For over 7 years my life have been upside down...If I would have known someone like "myself" to be told about Florida...I would have been grateful....now if you want to have a turmoil in your career, go right ahead and blessings....disgrunted (real police officer)...Corazon taino

God, I posted this a long time ago! I work for for State of PA and was considering moving to Florida to work for DOC but since then I have seriously changed my mind and am now working on my master's degree so I can take my career experience and teach. Would like to see more latinos in this field because like they say "numbers mean power". I am still moving to Florida around May 2006. Hope to begin house shopping sometime early next year. I am sick of the snow, cold and shoveling myself out in the cold frigid mornings!

Don't know much about Florida except what I know when I have visited numerous times.

1. It's a great state with a good quality of life. I plan to buy a place and or move myself.
2. When you have zeroed in on a home, check the Florida sex offender database; it may be real important to do so.
3. Florida is one of the most wired states in the nation and you can get all kinds of information about your neighbors, living areas, schools, and a bunch of other topics. You may want to spend some time searching around on the internet before you move.
4. Although they have no state taxes, other items, such as car registration can be much higher as compared to other states.
5. One of my regular partners [I am a fed like the other guy], was a Florida Probation/Parole officer; I think that he would tell you, although they [the probation and parole division] are ahead of the curb, he was not thrilled with the working conditions and bureacracy. I believe he is a lot happier now but would love a lateral transfer to Florida.

So where do you live right now?? I am looking to buy around Haines City, Davenport or maybe Ponciana. I travel there twice a year to visit friends that have already relocated and working for corrections, education and other fields that I am looking into. I really dont like the way Florida State Parole works because I do not think I could really get used to not having the perks that I have here. I have been doing alot of research since I have a 14 year old daughter. Before I buy I will check out the sex offender database. I already have viewed it several times. I have received alot of good relocation information from realtors. I have already chosen the builder I am going to use to build my home after looking at many builders! God, they do make alot of beautiful homes but I dont want to buy something beautiful and made of cardboard! I really want something I will stay in for a long time. Even though I do wish to retire someday to Puerto Rico but for the meantime Florida will do.
So what is your expected relocation date?? I am trying for May 2006. Taking a trip in about 2 weeks to check out some new communities. Good Luck.
