I was born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens, NY. I'm getting ready to go to the Island for the first time in my New Yorican life. I know I will definitely enjoy the warm and beautiful sights that Puerto Rico has to offer, but most importantly I'm looking for my father and any other living relatives that I have never seen before. I will be there on May 17th and I will leave on May 23rd. If anyone out there can assist me in locating at least one of my family members, I will truly be grateful for your help. My father's name is Herminio Maldonado and my mother's maiden name is Elena Rosa Vega. My mother died 17 years ago and I don't know if my father is dead or alive. The last time I saw him was 40 years ago when I was 4 years old. I have his date of birth and place of birth, but I will share this information with anyone who is honestly trying help me locate my father and my lost relatives.
Please respond to this letter as soon as you can. I look forward to hearing from all of you. Thank you, Herminio Maldonado |

That is very difficult task if you are not providing a little more information . Example : Birth of place, year, last time any of your states relatives made contact with him or indirectly through a friend or relative of his. Perhaps with the birth certificate you can trace back him back but not quite sure because you would need to assemble a family tree to reach for at least any of his descendants. Maybe he re-married and you may have more brother and sisters !. You need someone who have the time to go around with little information asking questions about someone who might be dead or moved out of P.R. logtime ago, etc. This is a very difficult task to start with.
If he is in the Manati area perhaps I can take some of my time to dig into it. otherwise ... good luck in your search! |

Two sources to look into : the Catholic Church in the town they were born and the Registro Demografico in Town Hall. You'll need their complete names, their parents name and for the Chuch, their padrinos. Death notices can be found on-line. Wepa is a good engine in PR to find all these places.

Thanks for your help
I thank you for the information you gave me and I appreciate your response to my urgent letter. I will follow your directions, and with a little help from my friends, and alot of luck, I may probably find my father and missing relatives in Puerto Rico. If you find out anything else that can help me with my search, please write back to me.
Thank you, Herminio Maldonado |
