It is DUMMY of the utmost demeaning kind, though in the Puerto Rican Culture it has become almost synonymous with just plain IDIOT. In some other Hispanic Cultures, like in El Salvador, it borders with almost a four-letter curse word in its severity.
BORICUA is the Native-American term (before Political Correctness, it was considered an "Indian" term), for the People of BOHREE-KEHN, (in Spanish, "Boriquén"), which is the Taíno name of Puerto Rico and it is said that it means in the Taíno Language, "Land of Many Rivers" (note: Taínos were the Native American Group that settled the islands of Cuba, the Bahamas, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico and Jamaica).

yea, the word "pendejo" TRULY is the spanish name for the pubic hairs of the "private area". Pendejo is taken as a big offense if you call somebody that unlike dummy. Dummy is a kiddy word.

In many latin-american countries means dummy, except in Panama which mean a scary person.
In Puerto Rico is a diferent story. Besides meaning pubic hair, in PR you can get in serious trouble is you call someone that. Even that PR is a small territory, you will get diferent reactions from the North, South, East, and West side of the island. In the North side, especially in the middle area from Vega Baja to Arecibo, you may find yourself in the hospital after the last letter "O".
