if anything I believe both are as different as water and sand. And there you go again, with the argument, that the assimilation of one culture, in this case, the city or ghetto culture is reason for the disappearing of the truly authentic, cultured and rich Puertorrican heritage. There are so many immigrants who in spite of being surrounded by guff, never destroy their identity. Those who become integrated into the nothing culture, decide to assimilate into it because they generally feel inferior, and because they want to. The real question is, why the feeling of inferiority? One reason, is a lack of exposure and knowledge of ones own culture and its value. Your argument on assimilation being forced down our throat is so trite and outdated. No one believes it anymore. People choose to be ignorant. But, the good news is that you can't get away with this ignorance on the Island. Maybe you can pass here in the US, but in the island, you better have developed some self-respect and pride for your culture, or else, there's really no place on the island for you. As for writers, you know there's more to writing than dots and commas. There is no excuse for lack of knowledge and the desire to learn.
