My concern has always been with the imperfection of the human condition which does not allow man to freely accept communism. My other concern has to do with the associated lack of motivation to suceed that one often encounters in socialism. O therwise, I cannot come up with any significant argumant to say that communism is bad. In any event-------- man needs to evolve quite a bit before we reach that sort of utopic society.

Stan, my post was directed at the need for tolerance, and it was not an injection of analysis of scientific socialism. That man needs to evolve is true, but it is equally true that he cannot avoid evolving either forward, which is usually the case, or regressing to an obsolete time which is unusual. Real politik is supreme, and always has gotten its way in the last analysis. And, therefore, your assumption that scientific socialism is an utopia, or an idealism that enervates the motivation of men is not true. In the Peoples Republic of China which has the largest population in the world, such that out of every three humans, one is Chinese, scientific socialism has been put to the test and succeeded. There is no sign whatsoever of a lack of motivation among the Communist Chinese. To the contrary they have even mixed some capitalism into the economy in order to do effective business with the world at large, BUT such capitalism has been cleaned free of corruption, and is constantly squeezed by a strong, centralized communist gov't so that it does not produce a capitalist restoration in China. And that is certainly the way to go for the foreseeable future. Now, China is only one example of where communism works, and it is also working in Vietnam and the other communist countries of the world. Indeed, all the countries of the world are trying some form or other of socialism, none are exempt, even the U.S. has been declared a Socialist Republic by the United Nations. So where you get the notion that communism and/or scientific socialism is only an ideal utopia is unknown to me. Perhaps, you are affected by the rhetoric of those traditionalists who are living in the past of 2000 years ago, and are lambasting communism as a failed system that perished with the destruction of the Berlin Wall. Their propaganda is ludicrous in the face of the real politik of many countries in the world which are either communist or socialist. In his book, "Tactics", V.I. Lenin stated that the communist tactics of advancement in the world is one of two steps forward one step backwards, as necessary. The old Soviet Union had to take that step backwards in those days, because they did not have the financial resources at that time to maintain 'military parity' with the U.S. which had gone whole hog in spending money to fight the communists of the Soviet Union. And yes recall, if you will, that at that time the Soviet Union with its scientific motivation was far ahead of the U.S. in space exploration and space station developments. And that cost a fortune to them, and they are still on top in that field. Now, of course, they have to resort to being arms producers and merchants in order to survive in the new world order, and they still got some of the great resources in oil and coal, and other minerals, including gold, than any other country in the world. So, if it is historically determined that there will be a communist restoration for them in the future, they got the wear-with-all to do it. Two steps forward, one step backwards is sound scientific socialist tactics, and note that the People do NOT celebrate the overthrow by Yelsin and his thugs of the Soviet Union. There is no May Day for that, but yet every year the Communist Party of Russia marches and demonstrates through Red Square, and it a sign of where the hearts of the Russian People are. In short, they have seen the dawn and it is still Red, and in the depths of their hearts they are still communists!

I cannot argue with the fact that the Russians had achieved scientifically. In fact they were ahead in the 50s and early 60s.

The words of Lennon and Serrat make sense, but I worry about motivation---------- I still do. After all America surpassed the USSR in the space race with good old capitalism. Don't despair----- I fully recognize the cruelty of capitalism. I see how it can eat and spit up those who stay behind.

Well, indeed, it is happening to the capitalists now. The latest is the 5 year sentence that the accountant for the World Com, or someother multinational corp., got in federal prison. The U.S. is progressing in social responsibility, all right, because 10 to 15 years ago that accountant with his creative bookkeeping would have only received a slap on the wrist as a white collar criminal, and would have had to pay a small fine, which his company probably would have footed for him. This latest is exactly what the strong, centralized gov't of China does to squeeze tort feasers using corrupt capitalist methods. In the old Soviet Union, however, they were harsher and placed such white collar criminals on trial, got them to publically confess their crimes in a court of law, and then were executed. But the concrete conditions of the old Soviet Union were entirely different in that they were fighting not only the old revanchanists of capitalism, but also struggling in the great war agains the fascism of Adolf Hitler, Tojo of the Empire of Japan, Mussolini and his black shirts in Italy, and the Caudillo Franco with his falangistas in Spain. Today, there is no need for such severe measures as the concrete conditions are set in a new world order of globalization. And the world is mostly either communist and/or socialist as I pointed out in my penultimate post to you.

Wow! Whoa! Eddie paid me a compliment! I am flabbergasted! Well, a belated "thank you," sir!
