Hello I'm from Ponce, too. You are right is borinque"n"o from Borinquen for short is Boricua as a nickname or like I said before just say "Bori"!!! By the way the ones that started calling themselves Boricuas are the ones from the Island that belive in the Independent government and this is like "power" to the race which is nothing bad (you get what I am saying) not the one that are in the states making spanglish words as "rufo" etc like you mention before; the reason I tell you this is because I was raise in PR and NY and in the Island is either Puertorrique"n"o and others Boricua.
