Cool

Hey girl i am a 16 year old Guyanese with an extermemy mixed decent but i pass for black/dominican/rican all the time and i speak fluent spanish. I go to school on the edge of harlem and I know what you are talking about... and i know how you feel, but the truth is you WILL meet some ignorant ppl who pay more attention to race and the color of your skin. The thing is YOU shouldn't be that way cuz everyone knows that there are beautiful people of every race. Sometimes i feel the uncertanties that you feel, i would feel comfortable asking for a brotha's number and not double think it. I think that most rican guys don't really care as long as you are attractive to them and you get along well- that's what really matters anyways. I don't think there are that many tensions between blacks and ricans as there are between blacks and whites. i find that i get approached by the darker boriquas than the light skinned ones. I think that THEY themselves have uncertainities on wether or not you would be accepting to THEM. As for me- i just stay who i am- loving the beautiful people of every race, inside and out. Arrite gal keep it real . ~sash

I am an african american woman who has always been around puerto ricans- I met my future husband who is PR in 2001- I was shocked to find out that he had never been with a black woman- and never prefered to be with them- until he met me- he had a very bad impression of blacks and he claimed that it was from his environment- but i am convinced that it is because he has went through his life being considered black and having to tell people that he is not black- and some of his family are prejudice but act like they aren't they tell me that they are of taino indian decent and spaniard but not black- I have a hard time with this because I know that my man has african features and that they wont admit to that-his sister who i love very much slips alot about blacks-she trys to hold it back but i already know where her comment is headed and it gets me pissed- any ideas on how to handle this?- up until I met my fiance and his family- I have never felt like an outsider around PR's- if they were prejudice I never noticed but now Im finding that it really bothers me and i dont want to cause no problems but im going to defend my heritage because thats who I am- and if I have a child it will be mixed and I dont want he/she to feel as though there is something wrong with it because my family are mixed with everything and we embrace all- Im glad that I read these posts- Black and Hispanics are beautiful and they make cute babies!!!

Puerto Rican guys like Puerto Rican Women

Hey ya'll, my name is Mary-Ann, and i think that it is really cool that Puerto Ricans are very strong willed and very proud of their heritage. I also have heard many of controversial issues about Puerto Ricans dating blacks, or other races. I belive that no matter what anybody says that Puerto Rican's feel more comfortable and more drawn to their own race. I personally have an experience with a male who only choose to "mess" around with girls of other races, but when it came to his girlfriend, she was Puerto Rican. One more thing, i fell in love with a Puerto Rican and i feel like he did not open up to me as much, nor did he take me seriously because i was not Puerto Rican, and i also think that one of the main reasons we started talking is because i 'look' Puerto Rican. This is very sad but no matter what it is very true. Even though that is true, i have mad love for my boricuas!!!!XOXOXOXOX

Smile Re: Do Puerto Rican Guys love Black women??

The thing about Puerto Ricans is that They are part black. When there was wars and slaveries the blacks didnt go to america quickly, they settled in Puerto Rico...Puerto Ricans are other words for saying Black and Spanish...Yes a lot of Puerto Ricans like the Black race, and thats ok too, nothing wrong becuz our natives are the black race.

One Love

I think Puerto Ricans are just beautiful. I'm glad we acknowledge the African ancestry in the culture. I just came back from San Juan, Puerto Rico (I was on vacation).

I really didn't see too many dark -skinned Ricans. Especially in the clubs. I was told that most Puerto Ricans do not like Dominicans. Please tell me that this isn't true.
I'm african-american and i think we as people know first hand how racism feels. Let's not do what "they" (white-priveleged society) do.

To all my boriquas....I met so many beautiful people in Puerto Rico (inside & out). I hope to visit again really soon.

One Love,

Morenabonita

Smile Do PR men love the PR BLACK mamis?

Hello I read a forum that was posted from this site a while back. It was a questioned that asked if PR men like African American women. I am a dark skined 100% BORIQUA from the boogie down bronx. Not cafe with a a lot of leche, but CHOCOLATE. I totally understood what some were sying about PR men may be "shy" about approaching a lack woman. I also related to being the center of racist remarks from my skin color and was left out of being considered of being a PR woman, not from whites but from my OWN people.Yes my own boriqua people would see me if I said something in spanish I got "OH where did you learn spanish" or "you're spanish?" with a suspicious raised eyebrow. And this happends the majority of the time. I do not want to hear you guys say "oh that must be ignorant people from your way"you think that no body is like that where you are from? Maybe it is the problem with the bronx, cuz in manhattan the spanish harlem people are more acceptable to a black latina busting out spanish (sometimes)and i even dated my boriqua papi from brooklyn, butin the BRONX. Forget it A guy once dumped me cuz he couldn't bear to see his mom's and grandmaother's face if he brought me home. another PR boyfriend would practically hide me in his room. But yet it would have been perectly ok if their nino's brought home a girl that is Italian or Jewish. This is more with older moms for the PR boyfriends.Yes I would get thrown a bone from a PR guy that steps up to me, but it will be because he thinks he is black, and probably doesn't speak spanish and most of his boy's are black. Not that there is anything wrong with that. When African American men approach me,after tryin toconvince them i am spanish, and then i am asked to "say something in spanish" just to prove it, cuz I don't look Puerto Rican.Or they say I must be Dominican. Icannot be accepted as Puerto Rican. Then I am asked what I consider myself. I say I am Puerto Rican and proud. They tell me no, you are African. I say Yes, I am part African, Taino, and of European decent. They still don't get it. You know there is a puerto rican saying "y tu abula donde estas? And your grandmother where is she? This was said in the past because ALL RICANS have AFRICAN decent. So in the old days of puerto rico when people of a "lighter" shade came over the house or had vistors they would hide poor black grandma in the back so nobody knew they hada black grandmother. So any of you PR men out there who are afriad, don't let your family deny, ask them, where their ghost grandma is? I love all races. I especially luv my PR papi's sorry if I came out too harsh, but sometimes the truth needs to come out.MUAH xoxoxo

Thumbs up new to board and curious

what is the big deal about a pr man being in love with a black woman why is it an issue anyway in either community?

I thought if you weren't white you were the minority no matter where you came from PR , Africa, India, Mexico, whereever.

could someone explain why the big deal. We are all "less than" in a bigotted "white" persons eyes. So should, the minorities. at least, have a better perspective; better meaning more open, than a bigotted white person has.

I mean come on...If the bigotted part of the world had their way every one that isn't of anglo-saxon, european decent PURELY, is a "mongral", "mud", "bastardized" anyway.

Why join in that?

A PR man should love a black woman a pr woman, a mexican woman, any woman he chooses and vica versa. OPENESS, COURAGE, ENTHUSIASM...COME ON didn't Sept 11th, mean anything to anyone...teach anything to anyone about how short life is and how hatred can take people out.

For those who have a problem with PR men dating/loving black women GET OVER IT!!!

For those who don't have a problem LOVE ON !!!
