salsa and it's true meaning is best when it was more inclined to the beauty of our land and our cultures, especially when it involved poetry and the philosophical containings of the puerto rican language and history. the only two young singers that still base there music on this concept and it's origination. Jerry Rivera and Marc Anthony these are the only exceptions-in my opinion.

Don't forget the newest "sonero" Domingo Quinones. He definitely keeps the tradition.

Hey guys, you forgot to mention someone that has always sang about the culture and tradition of their homeland, Mr. Ruben Blades. He is not P.R. but the man has always written his songs about the patria. Another thing is that "Domingo Quinones" is not a new "sonero". He has been around since the early 80's when he sang with Luis "Perico" Ortiz. He has always been a great sonero. It's just that with his last three productions and the off Broadway play, "Quien Mato a Hector Lavoe?", he is being recognized. We have put to much emphasis on the topic of love in our music. Years ago, the salsa singers would sing about any other thing like the "bodega" in the corner, the neighbors cat or dog, their grandma's soup, etc., etc., etc. We need more of that. I mean the love topic is great but how muc more can you milk it?

MERRY X-MAS AND HAPPY NEW MILLINIUM!!!!!

Very true, RaySalsero. Domingo Quinones has been around...sadly he's getting recognition now...but, like they say, better late than never. I had the fortune of interviewing him on my show: LATIN HEAT, and he's a pure BORICUA, even though he was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey! He's very down-to-earth and can sing his ass off!

As for soneros and/or other singers singing about love, I have to agree with you...it's gotten to the level of "barf". Let's bring back songs about "the bodega down the street", shall we?

FELIZ NAVIDAD Y UN PROSPERO MILLENIUM, Y'ALL!
WEPA! Y...QUE VIVA LA RAZA!
