I grew up listening to a variety of Puerto Rican music with jibaro roots. I wish some of the older songs would resurface into today's music culture. One song I would like to see remade is Verde Luz.

I like where you are coming from, El Topo's Verde Luz is a beautiful song which will make any jibaro here in the mainland misty. We do need a performer who can interpret La musica tipica into a salsa form it worked for Hector back in the days, we need to represent our music, our tradition . So we can have some semblance here in the U.S. of our beautiful culture. Hey how about some arroz con gandules.............

I think with the limelight that Hispanic music is in Spanish artists should take advantage of it. There are some old beautiful songs out there that could be redone, not so much as to lose its orginality but to bring them into the 21st century and have younger generations enjoy the beauty that they bring. As far as arroz con gandulez, I love that with tostones.

Don Perdo Flores y Rafael Hernandez both great composer of our music, have had their composition interpreted by many. "Linda" is one song that always be interpreted by Spanish artist for its simplistic lyric and beauty. "Alla en la altura" song by Ramito is one composition I would like remade again. ...........Hey hows about some patitas con garbanzos.........

I just want the latin culture to have a positive influence on the general American mainstream. I feel that we are badly portrayed in movies and television. Maybe music is the way to the people's hearts.
How about some mofongo?? |

We as Latino Americans have contributed much to the building of this great nation, although
the dynamics was never put in place to show how we contributed in writing, politics, painters,sports... I need not validate this to any anglo,,,, and their own ignorance has caused them to portray us in a negative light.I can't expect mainstream North America to realize our contribution, when history books cover anglo world and their history. The dialogue that you have put on the floor, if you will is one that say we as Americans are not ready to assimilate wholeheartedly to the Anglos way, maybe is time for them to bend and accept ours..... coqui......... ------------------ [This message has been edited by raypuertomio (edited 23 February 2000).] |

I think it will take a Hispanic in power or with a great deal of money or education to get a great big group of people together to get the mainstream America to realize we are more than tacos, Ricky Martin, and soccer. We are a diverse people who settle into this country before the English did. We cannot create hostility because that will only promote it. But if someone with a lot of charisma and talent or a group can get together and change things well......IF we wait for the anglos to change we will be waiting into our great grandchildren's future.
