I have seen the boy perform at the LATIN QUATERS and the COPACABANA and let me tell you he is an entertainer.
He is a young brother that is going places, his voice is pure and powerful however you have to understand how latin music works. In NYC there is only on record mogul and that my friends is mr Ralph Mercado, he makes them or brakes them kind of like the black guy in the mambo kings and that is why Marc Anthony's latest cd with Jennifer Lopez is not doing as well(in the latin charts) as his previous one did(he won a grammy for it) he is also suing RMM record(owned by Ralph mercado) to get out of his contract and be able to sign one which will generate him a lot more revenue. Mercado is lucky cause on top of having all the best salsa singers(look on the cd's and you will see RMM) but he also has mr SERGIO GEORGE who is definetely the greatest arranger, composer of his time(NOW) I mean the brother even wrote most of the music for Orquesta De La Luz(the japanesse salsa band) who are now dipping into the jazz scene. Other latin musicians to look for contributions in the future are: Luis Damon, Charlie Rodrigues, Laz and Frankie Negron. Well happy life to all. |

I strongly disagree with your comments about Ralph Mercado and RMM Records. I know Michael Stuart and I know several employees of RMM. RMM is the worst about promoting their artists and doesn't really do anything for them. that is why celia cruz and marc anthony left the label. If Marc's english cd didn't do as well as expected - it's not because he's on a different label.
But I will agree that Michael is extremely talented in every way as an entertainer. ------------------ Jazzminb |

This one is for jazzminb:
Out of curiosity what do you disagree with me about. I used to work for RMM and let me tell you everything that you mentioned, I said. Marc Anthony DID NOT leave RMM, the case still pending for your info and in the mean time he is working under another label. You are abosultely right when you say that the man flat out sucks which is what I said without saying. Now tell me who else in NYC has a record label that produces Latin Music. Celia Cruz left RMM under good conditions, she was one of the pioneers of RMM records and now she is basically her own boss (she records under Mr Willie chirino who is partners with Mr Emilio Estefan in miami). In NYC there is ralph mercado or no-one and if you do not believe me then whenever you go to the latin quaters if you are here in NYC(Club is owned by Mercado by the way along with the ex-owner of Club Broadway who's name is Marty) and asked why Johnny Rivera, Rafael de Jesus and others record out of either puerto rico or miami. Before you go disagreeing with someone you should read and understand what is being said and this way you will not have to write comments about disagreeing with someone who does not disagree with you. Also if you look at all of Marc Anthony's, La India, Orq de la Luz and all of the RMM family like they like to call it you will see that most of the hits is either composed by SERGIO GEORGE(not the merengue guy by the way) or ISIDRO INFANTE and before he died LUIZ RAMIREZ who with REY DE LA PAZ formed a great group. Any questions about salsa in NYC that you may have you can email me at r.quesada@puertorico.com and I'll be glad to answer anything that I know and if I do not then I will tell you that I do not know. I actually know 2 people who used to work at RMM and they will back up everything I posted about RMM because they are my source for information. I know an artist personally who is on the label who agrees with what I posted also.
Yes, it's admirable that Ralph Mercado started this record company, I don't dispute that, - but it's not enough to have this record company if you're not running it properly. From what I've seen from visiting RMM's offices and talking with employees there it's a chaotic and poorly run label. As much success it has - it could achieve more if it were properly run. From the people jumping ship from RMM - it seems to me the label's days are numbered. According to employees there RMM is spreading itself too thin and signing too many people at one time. But I wish RMM records the best of luck. |

Jazzminb You do not have to have your words backed up cause I'm one of those guys that jump ship. I'm not trying to give any compliments to RMM and one thing is for sure he is not going anywhere.
As long as mercado is runing things is not going to happen however, when he decides to let someone else runit then I see it going down. The only point I was trying to make was that you do not have to disagree with me since basically we are both saying the same thing and that is that RMM realy takes advantage of the artist and basically shafts them every chance they get. Have you ever heard of el grupo LA COSA, in this open board go to music and the arts and take a look, I never heard of them. Peace, luck and god bless all Rolando |
