Why is so much Latina dance music extremely sexual/disrespectful towards women?

my mom and i have problems agreeing on the issues of my embrace of our PR cultura. part of the fuel for her fire is based on the continuous disrespect of women on television and in music. now this is not just limited to PR, or to the whole Latino community...it's in other communities around the world.(but somehow we seem to do it best.) i love mi hente, pero how can i help my mom accept that i want to be a part of my cultura when so much involves the disrespect and degrading of women (who allow it by the way)?

I'm not an authority on the subject by any stretch of the imagination but I think it might have a little to do with the following:

a. We live in a male chauvinistic, sexist society to begin with;

b. Most Salsa/Merengue Lyricist are male;

c. Most Salsa/Meremgue Producers are male;

d. Most Salsa/Merengue Interpreters are male; ( you can count the women in one hand)

e. vulgarity and obscenity sell.

There are exceptions in latin music like Ruben Blades and Gilberto Santa Rosa who are recording intelligent lyrics. In Ruben's case most are of his own inspiration.

What the hell are you mujeres talking about? Salsa music is sexy, respectful and in some cases patriotic. yes, our society is centered around the man but our families are still together.

that's crap and you know it.
a lot of the music is geared towards sexuallity. if i am your sister and some guy is saying to me "tus abrosura..." etc. are you going to be pleased that he is disrespecting me that way? i feel my sexuality is a very private thing...not to be shared with anyone except my husband...(when i get one) and if someone finds me sexually attractive, that's all fine and dandy...but he better keep it in his pocket if he knows what's good for him.

Some lyrics maybe sexual but not as overt as alot of american music. Dancing is sexual. You dont salsa? I dont grab culo or tetas on the flow but the energy is sexy and fun and romantic. Whats your problem? I'm looking for latina who's gonna cook, clean and look after me. I will do the same but theres nothing like coming home to smell food ready and a little culo for desert. Am I a chauvanist? Yes. I'm still a hopeless romantic.
