Remembering Marvin Santiago

A little over a year ago- On October 6 to be exact, we lost one of the greatest Soneros ever- El Sonero del Pueblo- Marvin Santiago. He was probably my most favorite singers in the world. We remember him.

In March 2004 Los Maestros De La Salsa directed by Luis Perico Ortiz paid homage to Marvin in a concert held in San Juan.

I would strongly recommend the video that was made on that night to any aficionado who appreciates our beloved Salsa; there are appearances by Wichy Camacho, Domingo Quinones, Oscar Deleon, Luisito Carrion, Andy Montanez, among other salsero artists including el Sonero del Pueblo himself.

The full title is: Puerto Rican Masters Tributo Al Sonero Del Pueblo: Marvin
Santiago and is availabe on DVD and CD. It is a phenomenal production and will definitely warm your heart.

I got that DVD and my favorite is LUISITO CARRION! The man can SINGGGG!

The video is just phenomenal- every time I play it- I play it loud and practice my technique.

You should see the video I have of La Lupe! She does her thing! Taking off her shoes, grabbing her clothes like she was washing them by hand, jumping, clapping behind her back and throwing her jewlery and scarf out to the audience...and of course her weird hand movements. This is what made her unique. The lady performed like a piano player plays (facial expressions).

You won't get it at any store. This Colombian man compliates them for his own sales. But I can get you his number. One of the other dvd's has Mirta Silva singing "eso nos son de aqui" with Cortijo! It has some old videos from old variety shows... with Daniel Santos and La Matancera. You'll like some of them. $10.00 each!
