Latinolouges
NY Theater fans:
Saw Latinologues over the Thanksgiving weekend. Latinologues is a series of stand up comedy sketches that were created by actor, writer, producer, Rick Najera which poke fun at contemporary latino society. The presentation can be seen at the Helen Hayes Theater, West 44th Street, near 8th Avenue, in Manhattan. Among the skits: The Border Patrol officer, Elian Gonzalez's father in Cuba, the Puerto Rican Parade Queen, the Cuban hooker, the macho waiter, and others. The performance is about 1 1/2 hours with no intermission. One thing, the seats at the theater are rather narrow and reflect the kind of seating that was around in 1912 when the theater was built. No stadium seating here folks. I would recommend it to all. From the Playbill- glossary on latino terms: Anglo- a minority group living in parts of the Southwest in the next 10 years. Bacalaito- Puerto Rican fish snack disapproved of by the American Heart Association. Chismosas- gossips; or the Latina neighborhood watch. Daddy Yankee- hottest reggaeton artist this second. An all American singer of songs dealing with a young woman's need for gasoline. Junta- assembly; Political term for group of latinos getting together for a cause, very rare. Puta- a not so catholic woman belonging to the oldest profession. Vaina- Dominican for person, place or thing. Vato- Chicano for dude, guy, man, potential gardener.
