I held him in my arms
I caressed him and I knew his time was short
I knew it when the doctors first told 6 weeks prior
I made sure to be beside him always at that point
I knew that day was coming
I made sure he knew I was here for him
I was there with him to the end
I stood beside him
I watched as his life grew nearer
I nearly lost my mind
The only man that I truly loved was slipping
His eyes slowly closing
His spirit fading
I knew he was close to death
I knew he wouldn’t be awakening again
I just held my father one last time
I gave him that final kiss goodbye!
