Hola Jocelyn. I'm a new member, so I'm just joining in. Keep strong, and when you feel like that, take a break for a few minutes, you're entitle to that,go outside and breathe deeply. I know it's hard mamita but try to be positive, it could be worse. I'm pretty sure you can break into journalism some how or another. Look at job enjines on the web (hotjobs.com or careerpath.com or monster.com) These job sites always have postings. (I don't know if you have already tried them, it's just a suggestion.) Jocelyn, take care and hope to hear from you again but not so frustrated next time. okay...

If I may I would like to share a little from my heart....
God has put into you LIFE and LIFE should not always be made decisions upon being practical.. sometimes you have to go with what you feel and not what you know or what you think is responsible.. If the life that God gave you is not woth waking up for why live!!!! God does want you to be happy and sometimes it's hard for us to see that especially when we have responsibilities of bills, kids, family, school... whatever but just do this... CLOSE YOUR EYES AND TAKE A DEEP BREATHE OF LIFE THAT YOU DON'T KNOW WILL EXIST TO YOU TOMORROW.. THEN OPEN YOUR EYES REALLY BIG AND LOOK OUTSIDE.. TOUCH LIFE(AFLOWER A TREE BRANCH) NOW TAKEE A DEEP BREATHE YOUR SOUL WILL TELL YOU WHAT IT NEEDS IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THAT THEN YOU HAVE MADE THE DECISION TO BE WHO YOU FEEL TODAY WHETHER HAPPY OR SAD.. LIFE IS SHORT YOUNG LADY... LIVE IT!!!! YOU'RE EDUCATED TAKE ADVANTAGE BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T THIS WIRLD WILL CHEW YOU UP AND SPIT YOU OUT.. THEN YOU WILL BECOME LIKE MOST PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD... SHALLOW, MISERABLE, AND ALL ABOUT MATERIAL THINGS AND MONEY.... THESE THINGS DON'T GO WITH YOU TO YOUR GRAVE ONLY YOUR SOUL GOES AND WHETHER IT WILL DESCEN HAPPILY WILL BE ALL UP TO YOU AND THE WINKS OF AN EYE THAT gOD LETS YOU HAVE... MUCHO CARINO HA USTED... DIOS TE BENDIGA EN CUAL QUIERRA DECICION QUE HAGAS......... ------------------ WITHOUT LOVE WHY DO ANYTHING |

A little down?
Life could be worse. I could tell you some stories, but I won't bore you with any. I don't know your age, but age has a bearing on how we make decision. If we are older, we tend to conform to our envirnment. But if were young, we have the whole world ahead of us. But if we have responsibilities, like children or family, then that really puts a burden on us. I don't mean that they are burdens. But it reflect on our decision making. Some of us were born bold enough to move on to other jobs. But you have to look at what you really want!! If your job is making you unhappy, start looking for other possibilities. My brother-in-law became a RN in Puerto Rico. He wasn't happy with that so he went back to school and now he's an anethesiologist. Big move! My sister decided to go back to college to get her masters. All hard decisions, But everthing for a better way of life. But making those moves are not for everyone. But you need to get out of what your doing if it is causing you all this headache. Uluajose@hawaii.rr.com |

Hello Jocelyn. I myself sometimes feel that way. If you have a job that isn't making you happy you have to look for something that does. Definetly stay there so that the bills are being paid but look around. Try to make the best of it. As hard as it may be. Stay and you never know look around. But if your not happy there I say don't plan to stay there. Like me right now. I love the people that I work for and my boss. But my job itself is so boring and just not doing it for me. But until I find something I will be here trying to make the best of it. Good Luck girl !!

Dear Jocelyn, Hey! My name is Jeni and I wanted to reply on what you said, that you are down because of your job. Chica, let me tell you, I feel the same way. I just got out of being in retail for almost seven years. I went through so much crap and stree doing that line of wor and wasn't able to go to school full time. I am so behind in school and so I finally quit. I am twenty-six, going on twenty seven in a few months and I am not finished with community college yet. Nena I am so FRUSTRATED! Me siento como que nunca voy a salir de ahi! I am now taking care of my friends son and going to school and trying to finish. It's so hard. One of these days we will be doing what we want, so you hang in there and be tough and so will I. My boyfriend had the obility to go to one of the best colleges in Puerto Rico with the help of his parents, but I dont have that benifit and it makes it tough. He doesn't understand sometimes. He is now finishing his masters and is going to get his PHD and I am still trying. I feel like a falure. I just need to stay strong and keep it up. My dad says, "Hey! We are Boricua, we can do anything!" Stay strong amiga. Let me know what you think.

Hey Jocelyn,
I think everyone goes through what you're going through at one time or another. Paying the bills is a huge incentive to stay at a job you don't like. But you do need to find something that can at least steer you in the direction of journalism or whatever it is that you might be interested in. You did not mention if you are involved in any activities (unrelated to work) that allow you the opportunity to write. If you are not involved in any activities, then hit the web, the newspaper, whatever and get involved. Also, if you are interested in journalism check the web for any information about Journalism Association memberships and meetings in your town. Make the sacrifice, join and attend. You might just be able to "network" yourself into a job or a paying internship. You also will probably run into someone in your desired profession who went through what you're going through right now. Don't give up and try not to mope. You can do this, just look at your job as a stepping stone to what you really want to do. Stay in touch. Peace, lja |
