Why is it that Puerto Ricans can not get along with the Dominican or the Mexicans? It's like there is some undergroup hate for peoples, just because they come from someplace different. I think that it is stupid, but I am interested to see if someone can answer my question.

The answer to that question has to do with pride. I grew up in the gran concourse in the bronx. The neighborhood consist of Cubans,Dominicans,Columbians,Black,Jew ect.
My friends were cubans, domicanos. I heard about that P.R's don't get along with various hispanics groups! But I never had a problem with any one particular group. We all got our pride. Some feel more patriotic than others, hence we tend to compete for the wrong reasons. But once we get to know each other, we are pretty much the same with the exception with culture. The stereo type doesn't carry to Hawaii. In Hawaii, when we meet any spanish speaking individual from any country, we get along fine. We share more ideas and get together more often. But the question should be, why do some spanish cultures don't get along with other cultures? The questions you state says Puertoricans in general. That is not true and should be address as such. What is your nationality Galleleah? I feel we just don't want to give other people the wrong impression! Right? See around the forum!!!!!

If you really want to know what nationality I am [J. Vargas]...well that is hard to answer cuz I am mixed. Where I come from it is true about what I said before. Eventhough I am not 100% puertorriqueña, people still have something against me because I have puerto rican in me. That's why I posted my question in the first place, because 95% of the haters are Mexican or Dominican. I guess it has to do with where you live. I agree though, that we as spanish should get along. Then and only then can we have a voice in our government that is worth listening to.

Galleleah,

Some of the problems we encounter as hispanics are that we are american citizen. We can come and go to our home whenever we want. We also have rights as american and were entitled to benefits that is due us. To some of the other ethnics hispanics, this dosn't go too well with them. Therefore various problems arise. Ask anyone from another ethnic hispanic culture, especially people who have made those remarks towards you. Santo Domingo is considered like a sister island to us. I'm kind of shock they would treat us like that. If we were to go through the same process to be americans citizens as they do, I'm pretty sure things would change and we would be treated as equals. But keep your head high girl. We earned our right to be here. We earn our rights to be citizens of this country. We earn the rights to recieve what is ours under the constitution. Have a good day.

The ulua man

WELL I DO HEAR THOSE TYPE OF RUMORS ABOUT HOW MEXICANS AND PUERTORICANS DON'T GET ALONG. NEVER HAVE I HEARD ABOUT DOMINICANS. YOU SHOULD SEE HOW MANY DOMINICANS LIVE IN PUERTO RICO. I HAVE MANY FRIENDS THAT ARE DOMINICAN PANAMANIAN MEXICAN. MAYBE THERE IS ONE ROTTEN APPLE IN THE BUNCH WHO IS HATING AGAINST OTHER LATINO PEOPLE, BUT NOT ALL. IWORK IN A FEDERAL BUILDING IN WASHINGTON DC WHERE ALL THE MAINTENECE AND CUSTODIAN PEOPLE ARE MAJORILY FROM CENTRAL AMERICA. YOU SHOULD SEE HOW HAPPY THEY GET WHEN ISPEAK SPANISH TO THEM, JUST BECAUSE THEY'RE HEARING THEIR OWN LANGUAGE. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE WE'RE FROM, WE'RE ALL SPEAKING THE SAME LANGUAGE, SOWE ALL HAVE SOMETHING IN COMMON. CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG????

I've heard this all before. I am one of the boricuas to have gotten judged by fellow hispanics. I was told in the midst of an ignorant argument that we boricuas are the lowest of the hispanics. the reasons given to me were that because we have black in us & because they don't understand why we are american & they are not. Stupid reasons huh?
well, as far as the blackness goes, little do thet know that all hispanics are made up of indian, black, & spanish. we are all the same thing. And i'm proud of who i am. i don't have a problem admiting to my blackness. i don't understand what is the problem people have with blacks. it makes no sense. honestly what i would be ashamed of is the spanish in us because all of what they did to our people. BUT, again i'm proud of who i am period! so i really think it has alot to do with the fact that we are americans & they are not. which again it is a stupid reason. however, not all hispanics are like that. i have 3 girls (bestfriends)
one is boricua, one mexican, & one colombian. the rest of my friends are cuban, dominican, haitian, african-american (which my husband & daughter happen to be) chinese. i mean i can go on & on. we are all from different areas of the world. every now & then you'll just get that bad apple like brenda said. don't let it get to you, bottom line is it's just ignorance!
