It has been reported that Cuban news largely ignored the passing of whom was likely the most recognizable Cuban voice of the 20th century, Celia Cruz.
This is again a reflection of the deep lack of respect by the Cuban government for its people; the depth of its repression; and perhaps the loudest cry for freedom I have heard from our sister island. Good show Fidel, I guarantee this one will bite you in the ass! José |

The passing of Celia Cruz is a sad one. The day she died I was reading El Nuevo Dia in my Great Aunt's home which said the family again denies her passing. How ironic! My grandmother, who cried for Celia, told me how Fidel Castro's regime and propoganda newspaper, Gramma, only dedicated 2 paragraphs to Celia and in that called her a counterrevolutionary. She also told me how Celia wasn't allowed to go to Cuba when her mother died, which was by cancer as well. Celia was no counterrevolutionary, she was a woman that touched the hearts of all who saw or heard her voice, a woman who loved children but couldn't have any, a woman who made Cuba famous to the world many times over.
How sad it is she won't see a free Cuba, her homeland, a land that a dictator claims to own. I know I would suffer if I could never return to Puerto Rico. It's sad she had to die, but we all have to, so does Fidelito, and when that happens he will pay for his crimes. Azucar!

I don't understand this at all. It's 7:44 EST in Virginia. A few minutes ago I just happen to turn the TV to Primer Impacto and I'm watching Celia Cruz' funeral. I was in absolute shock. She died on Wed. and this is the first time I'm hearing anything about it. Why? What is the media's problem. You can find everything else out there that they find is newsworthy but something as important as the passing of "La Reina De La Salsa" I don't hear boo about. It was worse than when Tito Puente died (may they rest in peace). Is it the area that I'm in or is it the rest of the non-Latin world could care less. When Elvis Presley died the news was everywhere. What's up with that. It's bad enough how Castro is treating the situation, but he's a butt crack anyway, but you think at least the rest of the entertainment world would treat her passing with the respect that it deserves. We will all miss the Legend, the Lady, the Queen.
Rest Well Celia!!! |

I think not think you would say such nonsense refrence to the Cuban cold war that is being wage agaist the Cuban people in Cuba. Well you should be aware that the Cuban mafia of Miami do not accept their own music, in other words Cuban music from Cuba is not music or does not exist! Anecdote Andy former singer of the Gran Combo band decided to sing in Cuba. La gusanera (Cuban-American Foundation)decided to boycott our singer Andy. When Celia was asked about the situation she said it was good to treat our Andy that way. Ethics of Boycott Anybody has the right to iniciate a boycott. If la gusanera do represent democracy, ethically they should respect they own culture and the opinions of other people and set an example what is democracy.

Camano,
I do agree with your statement regarding Andy. The boycott of musicians who apolitically perform for Cuban audiences is wrong. Even Gloria Estefan's performance at Guantánamo Base was directed to the Cubans outside the fence. However, this still does not justify government sponsor repression, communism, lack of human rights and torture, or the Cuban government's suppression of Celia Cruz' death. I always find it interesting when people think they can hide the sky behind one hand. I will repeat it again, this one will come back to bite Fidel on the ass. José |

I noticed you said communism. What does dialectic materialism has to do with Celia's death?
Maybe you should elaborate what you mean because I do not understand what you wrote or I am not aware of the issue.
