I Think This Forum Needs Re-vamp!

I don't know, but I think PUERTO RICO. COM needs a Re-VAMP!!!! BIG TIME.

Why?

There is something wrong somewhere when most of the postings are weeks, months or years old.

1-Is it that folks here just Lurk, read but don't actively participate?

2-Is it that some are folks intimidated with topics or personalities?

3-Is it that some of the posts are in English and others in Spanish?

4-Is it a lack of on-going new blood?

In all forums there is always a lull, a calm time, but it's almost permanent here.

What is it?

I belong to other forums where the format is complicated, a visual nightmare!
However people participate right and left, in either language, and the postings are old if they're an hour old.

Most forums on the web have the usual nut-so's, right wing to left wingers, but everyone tolerates each other, more or less.

Then What is it?

On the other hand:

1-This forum has a simple format.

2-Its easier to understand, easier on the eyes, no visual clutter.

3-Its simple to navigate but no one seems to be here most of the time.

Anyone has any ideas on how to get this forum back into action?

I agree!

1. The message board needs a facelift. Too Ivy looking rather than fun and appealing.
2. What's the sense of posting if it looks like only one person visited? In all other forums even if you revisit your own thread or post the count rises. It seems that this function does not work (has never work even in the old one) here giving the impression no one is around... at least reading it. It only rises when another person responds with a post.. eg. 2 posts = 2 viewed. On a thread with 20 posts gives the impression it was read only 20 times. People do read without posting but this does not reflect.
3. Ameri Rican may have taking all the people with him jaja.

It seems like the site was more fun when AnotherRican and others like him posted their POV's. Many of us disagreed with them. However, they stirred up enough opposition and controversy to keep us coming back to post rebuttals, or to read someone else's response.

One thing that might be considered at this site are "Boricua links." This would enable users to visit other sites with additional Boricua interests and information. This may bring new users to this site.

BTW, can you guys share post the web address of other Boricua sites? Aside from this one, I look at "Boricuas de Corazón" every now and then.

I think a weekly chatroom session with the regulars discussing the recent hot topic of the week would be a lot of fun!

I have a microphone now on the computer and I would like to have a speaking discussion about some theme with others who would like to hear the voices behind the posts!

If not I think the format needs to change as well.

AnotherRican needs to be left behind forever. He was an obsessed person and really did not know when to stop. That is bad for a website as well. Variety and letting many express themselves is the best thing. But if only a few participate consistently then unfortunately growth doesn't happen. I have spoken to others and apparently the growth of facebook and myspace and virtual lives and so on has snapped up many potential forum users.

I think if we switch to some type of voice response topic between the regulars like on the microphone format---it would be a lot of fun. Sort of like a Roman Forum on hot topics with maybe timed responses would be fun!! And hearing a person's voice is less intimidating for newbies!!

What do you all think?

Talking High Tech vs. Low Tech

I'm glad that there seems to be a small consensus that things aren't right here. About Another-Rican, he may have been obnoxious, nasty and folkoric but most would agree that next to Faraon he was sane, and that's pushing it. LOL Faraon seems to need heavy duty shrink attention + medications + a straight jacket. LOL

POV appears to be busy with other things. Stanley seems to have taken a long vacation to the other side of the planet. MMMMMMMM Could he be in Tibet or Outer Mongolia? Yukije must have been scared away by Faraon, who has finally taken over the Politics section all to himself. Slap got intimidated with English, but he'll return full blast one of these days when his Berlitz English language class starts to kick in.

About Chatting + microphone, sounds high tech but in my case I can't be tied down to long phone conversations. I write, walk away for hours or days and then return. If the day is rainy I stay longer on the puter. The Chat format won't work for me. I hate phone conversations, I don't even use my cell phone. LOL

Bottom-line we need new blood here, from where ever it comes, left, center or right. I put as an example Cafe-Boricua. It has hundreds of hits per minute. Why? I don't know. Maybe they are high tech, we're low. They make use of a lot of visuals via YOU TUBE, we don't.

It still boils down to, "How can we get more folks in here?"

Any ideas?

Richiecoqui have I banned you? Yes or NO? No, I have not and the truth is I don't ban right wing conservatives. I never have. I ban LOCOS. Is it my fault that the last two have been of the right wing persuasion? One who admitted (AR) that he was here to harass people to death and not let others express themselves freely. He admitted that. What can you do but ban a person who admits being on here to harass others? Tell me what you would have done? Tell me Richie?

The next guy Faraon, spams and talked about throwing a nuclear bomb on Puerto Rico and it would be a good thing because Puerto Ricans are the most corrupt people on Earth. He also mentioned blacks in really derogatory terms and thinks Homosexuals are criminals and perverts. He hated gays, homosexuals and he hates his own people with violence and blood involved? What would you do Richiecoqui? Is it my fault that extreme right wingers who take it to the extreme tend to be on the edge of sane behavior? No. POV, Slap and many others of conservative points of view are most welcome here. They are not insane in their behaviors, thoughts or points of view. So there is your answer.

Would you tolerate a left winger Richie who would talk about bombing the USA hating on whites and straight people and harassing right wingers on the forum to the point of shutting them all up and being on here day and night? No you would not. But since the left winger extremist has not shown up yet you don't see the banning I would give that left winger as well. Is it my fault that since there are more average conservatives in politics land statistically speaking they will have a tendency to be the ones who have the most number of off the wall extreme bad behavior. The left is small in number. Most people are moderates and centrists and only middle right or liberal types. Strong left is few. It is easier to be status quo than different. This nation is center and center right. So is Puerto Rico.

Judge people on their behavior not their politics. Actions and not words only is what counts. It you write about violence, hating and harrassing. I will discipline you. If the only way you can argue a point is to use personalisms and banalities---which both Faraon and AR used consistently---you are not an asset to any forum. I want intelligent and sound and logical argumentation. IF people want to socialize then let them go to the open board and other fora on pr.com. Politics and Religion has to be tightly regulated or the worst of people online is let loose. I don't like just one person posting.

And frankly if there is no interest in decent debate on this site....it will die. I did not seek the position and it takes time and effort to read all the stuff people write on here. Do you want to moderate Richie? If you don't want the responsibilities then be FAIR in your criticisms.
