I've lived in California for 31 years. This is the second (possibly third) time "splitting" the state has been proposed. The issue revolves around water rights and illegal immigration.

For many years Northern California residents have claimed that Southern California (SoCal) sucks up way too much water. They make a good point given that the south is truly a semi-arid region which is forcibly kept green through massive irrigation. This "keep-it-green" mentality has cascaded into the minds of most homeowners; that is, most single family residences have lawns in their front yards which are kept green by large quantities of water. You will be hard pressed to find a home whose front yard is composed of SoCal's native rock and desert vegetation. So, it is fair to say that SoCal SUCKS. . .a lot of water!

Illegal immigration in California is wildly out of control and getting worse. State immigration laws are weak. Unlilke Arizona and Alabama, California's weak immigration laws makes this a haven for illegals from every square foot of the planet.

In SoCal, most illegals tend to be Mexican or Central American. When I first arrived, I felt pity and admiration for the few illegal Mexicans whom I met. They were hard working people who stayed out of sight and out of trouble at the end of their workday. Without exception, every illegal Mexican whom I met back then was here working illegally for their families back home. All they ever dreamed of was to go back to their country and families.

While the plight and story of today's illegal immigrant is virtually the same, the fact is that their attitudes, behaviors and demands have changed drastically. The new illegal immigrant feels empowered by their large numbers, weak immigration laws, and the ever expanding sub-culture which caters to their particular tastes. Many have zero interest in cultural assimilation or learning English. Many drink irresponsibly and are the cause of many weekend car accidents. To top it all off, many demand rights (and are slowly gaining them) at par with law abiding U.S. Citizens. I've witnessed three major public demonstrations by illegal immigrants demanding more rights and recognitions. It's baffling and unimaginable, yet it cannot be denied that these illegals are slowly making gains, while law abiding Citizens are losing ground and TAX DOLLARS to them!!!

That's not going anywhere.........U.S CONSTITUTION says:

Clause 1: New states
“ New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress“

Chachooooo, they have a better shot of amending the constitution so Arnold Schwarzenegger could run for President than splitting California into 2 states......both bills have no chance. Never say never? I'm saying never.

I have NO respect for people who come to our country and break the laws and dont give a damn of applying for permission, they are here for years. Fake identifications and underground economy. If we have to obey the laws and we are legal , why can't they?.................I dont go to Mexico and violate their laws and Mexico have really tough laws about immigrations just ask the Guatamantecos.

There is a right way to enter this country legally from workers permit, student visas and so on.....the list is long. Europeans do it right. It just shows you how messed up Mexico is from the government to the laws and organization.

by the way, southern California is worthless......Northern California all the way up to Oregon and Washington States are the only places I would visit and live on the coastline

Like any community, we have our share of issues to contend with, some of which I've already mentioned. However, I would not say that SoCal is worthless. There's much out here to be enjoyed and appreciated. And San Diego, our southern most city is a true jewel.

Yeah. Lot's of blue-bloods in San Diego. Carlsbad and Oceanside are nice areas also. But again, to refer to this region as worthless is a gross exaggeration. The northern region as prohibitively expensive also. But again, there are a few affordable enclaves even on the coast.

Hey, tell you what, despite our sucky set of problems, I'd rather be here than in the northeast.

Anywhere in the MID-WEST and West Coast is better than the northern east to live...........when I say worthless is a saying to the over-crowding. Of course there are parts of southern Cali that are nice but at a price.......its just the illegal immigration is out of control and makes some parts of southern cali rough.

Southern Cali could be great again if they control the border...........with all that said, California is a beautiful state....a little too expensive in buying property for my taste but I always love to drive with the family there.
