I very much agree. We must hit from all sides. Though, as I wrote before, Puerto Rico is not ready politically or economically to be independent yet. We must start now of course, but presenting a bill before those from the island decide to start might do 2 things. It might just crash and burn, or it might force the island towards independence.
You wrote, "If the three Congressmen and woman need to worry about their folks on the mainland, then they have no business in ours on the island...," which many independence opposers will cry out when they see such a bill. Many on the island rather have their lives changed by them and I think the sovereign path should first start with them. They'll be the ones to live under it. So much will happen if such a course of action is taken, and the branch might swing many ways.

I agree that we can't just stay still and accept things. That isn't the proper way either. As politicians they know they can do just so much without ruffling feathers. They don't want to lose their positions and they do realize that they can help more from where they stand. Don't forget that it is the people and their representatives in the states that vote for these positions and issues. Calderon's opinion that we should all register and vote is a good one because if we have and continue to show our strength in numbers we be able to get things moving. At times we are our worst enemy because we turn against our representatives. We must continue to express our desires for sovereignty, we must continue in all aspects locally and in our Island. Much respect! |

In my mind, the only reason he won was because he's always helping Mexican immigrants from getting deported and when you have a district which is increasingly Mexican, that helps. ![]()
