Unhappy

I write thinking about the Puerto Rico I was knewn. About an island that simple and where everyone knewn each other. Where the sounds of nature in the morning woke you up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee. I think of the times I had running through the campos of my lovely Cabo Rojo, Cuesta Blanca, Barrrio Pedernales. Eating Mangos from the trees and chewing on freshly cut Caña. I remember my cousins cooking on a fogón, giving off a combined smell of Carbón and the food being cooked like sorullitos de maiz. The sounds of las palmas de la playa Búye. The sight of a blue sky of the Caribe. The freedom to run around grandma's house chasing chickens and living a life of free care. My friends, that Puerto Rico is in the past. Now we only want more and more material gain. The hell with your vecino. Driving fast to every place. No giving a hoot about the other drivers. We need to never forget, we were a caring people, a people of joy and good feelings. I want it back! am I dreaming for the impossible?

Suki
