Guarionex5, I don't understand your posting. Perhaps I don't understand your English. Were you referring to the few months between being a Spanish colony and an American possession, back in 1898? Maybe we should sing: "If I were a richman..."?

Then, again, do you think that Spain will take us back like Hernandez Colon tried to do in the late 1980's? So instead of becoming the 51st State we could become the 52nd Province of Spain. I talked with a Spaniard a few years ago and he told me point blank that they don't eat rice, that they are European and eat potatoes: doesn't seem to me they are eager to take us back. If we became Independent we could compete with the Dominican Republic for the hegemony of the Caribbean. Perhaps we could develop closer ties with Colombia (I doubt that Venezuela would care to let us sharecrop [arrimarnos]); already the Colombian Drug Lords have the mayors of the towns of Lajas, Guanica, Cabo Rojo, Guayanilla, and other southern municipalities, in their payroll.

Maybe our National Hymn should be "Man of La Mancha".

PUERTO RICO IS ALREADY FREE!!!
DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND YOU TERRORIST!!!
GOOD WAY TO SHOW YOU THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A COUNTRY THAT IS FREE AND ONE THAT ISN'T, JUST GO PULL YOUR SAME BULL S.H.I.T IN SOME SOCIALIST COUNTRY AND SEE HOW LONG THEY LET YOU LIVE! JUST GO TO RUSSIA OR CUBA AND PROTEST AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT AND SEE WHAT THEY DO TO YOU, YOU DON'T HAVE THE PROTECTION OF FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND PROTEST IN THOSE COUNTRIES, AND MANY OTHER COUNTRIES ARE THE SAME IN LATIN AMERICA, SO YOU HAD BETTER BE GLAD THAT YOU ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO LIVE IN PUERTO RICO OR ELSE YOU MIGHT BE DEAD BY NOW! SO, NOW YOU GO AND PROTEST AND ENJOY YOUR "FREEDOM" WHILE IT LASTS, BECAUSE IF YOU GET WHAT YOU WANT A PUERTO RICO BECOMES INDEPENDENT, HOW LONG WILL YOUR US CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS OF FREEDOM OF SPEACH AND PROTEST PROTECT YOU THEN? YOU HAD BETTER BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR OR ELSE YOU MIGHT GET IT!

Pequeño Insecto:

(That is what your name means in most of the Hispanic world.)

Don’t be so hard on 51st state and most of us; we are in favor of statehood. Only the first few people to post their opinions here were in favor of Independence, some out of youthful ignorance, others because they are as sound of mind as the famous Don Quijote, and I think one because that person has been so brainwashed by the Leftist Movement that hey cannot perceive reality if not by the colored glass of communism.

It sounds to me like plenty of "brainwashing" all around! Left, center, right, whatever!
