I have never been in the military. It never attracted me and it is not what I am about in life. But, I do know that in a responsible platoon if many of the 'members' who rise through the ranks and then gain positions of power---those who do reflect their 'training' and who commands them and who 'shapes' them. Educators know those who teach and train you also have influence over you. And a badly led platoon the most responsible party are the trainers NO? The people who put the policies in place and show them how to do what they do. Bad apples? I had to laugh. A few bad apples don't cause a near congressional shut down of an entire institution unless there is sound evidence that what it produces is not wholesome in the least.

Military should be used defensively if at all. A great warrior who was the founder of Aikido stated that the greatest objective of all warriors is to reach a state of wisdom and human experience in which 'aggressiveness' and 'killing' is seen as inferior ways of fighting. And the best of all is to not have to fight at all. Because one has conquered all fears and all base needs war is based on like: Greed, jealousy, fear, power, and selfishness, and uncontrolled fury. Those are the emotions killing and war will be based on. And the ones paying the price are never the decision makers. Those are safe in cocoons and far from the problem. One has to look deeply on what one is going to go fight for. I think fighting to force some other country to conform to your idea of ideology is counter productive. That is why the Cold War is over. Do you really want dead people en masse? Terrorism if it was an easy issue and all you need is to let the CIA do its job with no more problems etc. I am sorry. That aint the way it works. Terrorism and conventional Army etc. like Special Ops and etc. is not effective in rooting out all the terrorists. If it was Spain and the others who have had the Euskadi and many others who have terrorism problems in the past would have found the magic formula by now. Extreme terror groups will find followers in many societies. Especially societies in conflict and in war. Resolve issues with humane solutions. That is the only way. Killing and getting killed constantly will never be a solution to violence. If that were true, and one can root out the guilty from the innocent easily in non-conventional violent groups then hey, would've been done by now. It has not occurred. Aint a conventional army you're fighting. Never was. Though Bush wants you to think it is. Lol.

Violence is never gonna lead to anything positive if it is not based on defending your rights as a human being to live. If someone invades your city and starts killing the citizens yes you have a right to defend. But if you go outside your homes to go invade someone else to take their oil, or to force your political structure on a place that has a different set of values and lifestyles it is gonna fail. Imposed crap always does. No one is saying these terror groups shouldn't be dealt with. The argument is how? By what? Invading countries and being involved in perpetual war forever? That is not a solution it never was.

The SOA was threatened with a shut down because it produced consistently corrupt leaders who used unethical methods to retain power and impose their agendas. You are not supposed to kill, torture, maim, and brutalize people because of their political, religious, or socioeconomic values. That is against all international law.
